I am sorry if this is obvious to those with experience, but I am stuck and would be grateful for some help. I have been trying to follow AJL's N55 PPK flash DIY (https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1331966) but am not able to get WinKFP to list my ECU family.

I have performed Identification and User Information queries with INPA. Identification lists DME/DDE as MEVD176K and P/N 8684922. User Information lists 8685006 as the ZB No. for the DME/DDE. (What is the ZB No.? A software version?)

WinKFP does not present any MEVD ECU families when choosing ZUSB even though there are MEVD folders (MEVD17, 1724, 1726, and 1729) in EC-APPS/NFS/DATA.

I have downloaded E89 v66 SP-Daten files from https://mega.nz/#F!plp2gCJS!NDWXdf7OjFC0bTTiwyf0Ug and have done Import/Export>Import>Assembly Line Data in WinKFP, pointing to the MEVD17 folders.

I have also tried to trace the history by looking through the .HIS files. However, I only see one entry, in MEVD17.HIS: 8666648,8685006,01,MV. I cannot trace 8685006 any further...

What am I missing? How do I get WinKFP to list my ECU family? My car is a 2012 135i.

I had the same issue with the ECU family not showing up in WinKFP and resolved it by manually importing the E89 Datens into the appropriate folders instead of using Standard Tools.

Can you please be a bit more specific about what you mean by "manually importing the Datens in to the appropriate folders?" Which appropriate folders? They are already in EC-APPS/NFS/DATA...

Got it. Manually copy the contents of my

E89 SP-Daten directory/data/gdaten
to
C:/EC-APPS/NFS/DATA/gdaten.

WinKFP now lists MEVD17 as an available ECU family.

OK, next problem... WinKFP now lists the MEVD17 ECU family, but does not list any of the PPK ZB Numbers for MEVD17. The range I see is from 8684926 to 8685072, which includes my stock 8685006. I believe the correct PPK ZUSB for my 135i is 8639164 (https://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31885). 8639164 is listed in MEVD17.HIS.

Please help. Thank you in advance!

Try 8685064 as per post 479 and 480. I believe that's what worked for me in the past.

LOL, one step at a time...

Had to trace the ZUSB through the HIS file:

8624990,8639164,01,MV
8639164,8666696,01,MV
8666696,8685054,01,MV

So the correct ZUSB is 8685054, which is available. Good think WinKFP is smarter than I am...

Next step..., test drive!

Sorry, didn't refresh the page and did not see your post until after I posted mine.

I think 8685064 is the correct ZUSB for an E93/E92 (8639174). 8685054 should be correct for my E82. Fingers crossed!

Well, flashed to 8685054, went for a test drive, could not tell any difference. Was not expecting to feel a performance difference -- was primarily interested in the enhanced exhaust sound. Nada. Not louder, no burbling, nothing... Flashed it to 8685064 -- same thing. Nada. Returned it back to stock 8685006 since it feels the best of the three; most linear.

Rather disappointed. Would really like a bit more personality to the exhaust. Bought the car with a Remus Quad, so not sure whether not getting any difference because not stock or for some other reason. Quite sure that the flash worked.

Why not just get MHD stage 1?

As for more exhaust sounds with the PPK flash, you'd need the iS exhaust or some other muffler as well. You won't hear any difference with the stock muffler.

Yes, MHD may be my next stop. But, MHD = $199 for the flasher module + $49 for a map pack = $250. PPK DIY = $14.35 for the OBDII/USB cable + my time. With results unknown in advance, you can see the logic in trying the less costly option first.

Furthermore, I have an extended warranty on the car. Plus, it's not entirely clear to me what MHD Stage 1 will do for the sound. Yes, looks like it allows one to go completely bananas with the burble, but what about the engine note while revving UP? I just want to be able to hear the engine... Would I actually need to go catless for my 135 to finally sound at least as good as my co-worker's stock BRZ that can barely get out of its own way?
