Went to Santa Pod yesterday

I met up with Carl and Jon (JLR1739 ) yesterday....was good to see you both and thanks to Carl for inviting me along; it was good to see you in action!

However, it was sooooo busy...we were there over 2 hours before we got our first run as the queue was that long! Indeed, Jon didn't even get a go as they'd closed the sign-on about 1/2 hour after we got there

So, what did the old-man Merc manage then? First I'll start with the excuses....
  • It was my first time in this car and in an automatic
  • It was only my 6th ever run down the strip
  • I'm crap at it (last time I went was in my M3 at the BMW event in Sept 2008; I had 3 goes against another mapped 335d and got thrashed everytime - I only got 13.8s! Is the owner of that 335d on this forum??)
Excuses all in, I think I still did OK....my first run was 12.7s @ 111.8mph.

I tell you what tho...Carl certainly knows what he is doing at that place; he got a good two car lengths on me at the start...well done mate!

The bad news is, I forgot my helmet and they wouldn't let me run again without one (stupid rule - over 110mph and you need a helmet aarrrgghh!).

So, with a bit of practice the car will definitely do low 12's - possibly even with me driving it!

Great to see you and Vicki again buddy. Shame we only managed a few runs. (and A shame vicki and jon didNt get to run, hi jon thanks for coming) You did very well with that first run. I pulled away at the start even though you still had a great start also. You motored past me though, a proper quick car that. So first run was 12.7@111mph vs my 13.1@104mph.

Palmnuts was kind enough to let me have ago in the "Beast" and he jumped in my dxb. I got some greif on the line for not having a helmet having "apparently" being told that they already had mentioned to me lol (was palmnuts tho lol) i said to the starter man " I'll lift honest" he said "yeah right, we'll see"

was i going to lift, was I heck, I Was Ballsed up lining up due to the fracas. Launched to hard and spun the wheels like fuck and did 13.1@111mph vs Palmnuts 13.8@105 in my car. Just shows how much knowing your car helps.

I can't tell you how good that AMG is. From the seats to the steering wheel to the MASSIVE amount of diesel like torque it has. It's A special place to be. Feels every bit like a 60+k motor. I love it. Much more of a car i feel than the M3. I want to own one of these bad boys at some point.

Cheers for letting me have a drive buddy. Much appreciated.

Could you just imagine if someone other than Carl did a 12.9s in the DXB. Now that would be funny.

Carl, Andrew good to see you both on Saturday.

The highlight for me was the jet car 272mph in quarter of a mile.

Looks like you got to the thread late Numbnutz ...it's been renamed since then.

Carlos forgot to spell and wrote Santa "Pos" instead of Pod.

Hope that clears it up for you.

I don't know what Carlos has to do with it....I wrote the thread, not him! And I don't know what you're talking about...it clearly says Santa Pod as it's always done!

Oh yeh...my bad. Swear it said Santa Pos originally though. A mod must of changed the spelling without you knowing. Too used to Carlos starting Pod threads.

What mod changed it...or was I seeing things??!! Can't have been...Dave was on it too...
