Angry Cost for oil service+sensor=ripped off?

Just looking for advice or comments really.

I have a 2011 325D which needed the oil sensor replacing - the iDrive constantly thought there was too much oil in it.

Took to my local indy specialist today who are usually quite good cost wise but they've charged me £450!!!

What strikes me is nearly £80 for oil?

I reckon they've doubled the price of the oil level sensor (just by doing a quick search) but I'm thinking of going back and querying it all.

They've run some diags as I asked them to but is this price justified?

If the oil level sensor is in the pan, then yeah that's about right. On the 2wd models you have to unbolt the motor from the mounts and lift up the motor to get to the pan. On the awd versions there is a drive shaft going through the oil pan which makes the job more difficult. I had my oil pan gasket replaced and that was over $1k.

I just looked the job up. while it's not as involved as the gasket job, it still looks like a PITA. the real wtf with your bill is the £11/L for oil!

I don't see anything wrong with the price of oil charged. Garage will charge retail price unlike us we shop online for cheapest deals.

I had some engine work done on my previous car Mk4 golf. Garage invoiced £60 for 5L of Castrol Edge. I was kicking myself as i had a spare bottle in the shed.

I am guessing the 325D needs about 6L oil. If they did use Castrol Edge that retails £50 for 4L.
Further 2x 1L botrtle cost £15 each

That's almost $14/l! I get oil, filter, BG MOA, service, and full inspection for less than what this guy paid for just oil.
