My Coolant Woes!
Hi,
I have replaced the waterpump in my car as there was a slight leak. At the same time I did the thermostat as well. Some may remember about this from other posts. I have been having issues with the car not getting up to temp (86 max, somr times 80-83 degrees) and having the heaters blowing hot and cold. So I replaced the thermostat with a another genuine bmw one and still had the same problem. Took the car up to a local mechanic the other day to have a quick look at. He found the bottom radiator hose was stone cold when it should be at least warm. He diagnosed it was either the radiator could have a blockage and coolant wasnt flowing through as it should or the thermostat was faulty. The mechanic advised to disconnect the top and bottom radiator hose and pour some water through it to see what the flow is like so i will be doing this shortly. The other thing I coukd check is putting the thermostat in boiling water. I think it is unlikely that I have bought two faulty thermostats from bmw, but I guess it could happen or maybe they are not seated right? Again i was really carefull with fitting so i dont think it is this. The other thing i was going to try was some radiator flush made by Abro that helps to remove rust and lime scale. Pour it in and leave engine idle for 10 minutes Any other ideas, many thanks in advance. |

Have you tried vacuum filling the cooling system just to make sure you get all of the air out?

Check the flow of the radiator today, used the drain plug to drain and flushed through. The flow of water looked fine. Also took the thermostat out and tested and opened fine.
So taking the to A1BN specialists in stevenage tommorow to get pressure bled so hopefully this will do the trick! Last edited by Nel2014; 03-25-2019 at 01:10 PM.. |
