I have yet to see pictures of any interiors with a gray leather and wood combo. I have no idea what this would look like, good or bad. If anyone has any photos it would be great if you could post them. Thanks.

For a picture of the grey interior with poplar wood, go to the "Official Electric Red" Thread on this site. There is a shot of the grey interior taken through a window. Not a great picture, but it will give you some idea.

Here's the pic robertb is talking about. I was considering this interior combo but I'm not sure after seeing this.

Who has information on the two-tone steering wheel?

Hi everyone! This is by far the best forum on the 2006 BMW 3 series.

This site is the first place I've seen pictures of the steering wheel that has the aluminum trim. What option/package do you need to get that? Does anyone know if it is available in the USA? It's the best... I hope I can get one with that type of steering wheel. Thanks.

The silver steering wheel cover is not Aluminium but Titan. Titan is the basic (no cost) spec in Europe and not available in the US. (and it looks cheap as well)

Even if you´d order it seperately, it would not look well with the aluminium trim you are getting beeing different in colour and surface.

While the accessory catalogue lists steering wheel trim in both woods, Aluminium is not available. So Aluminium means black wheel. Period.

Wow okay. Well thanks for pointing me to the hidden photo of the gray/wood combo. I guess my imagination wasn't far off and that it doesn't work very well, at least to my tastes.

It looks like aluminum is the only way to go with a gray interior. I think black interior gives it that classic BMW look but 1) I don't particularly like black inside in general, even though BMW's pull it off well and 2) With an SG exterior I think the whole car would just be a bit too dark.

I'm also waiting to see the SG in person. If its too dark in person then I guess I'll switch to old reliable (and common) TiAg/Black/Aluminum and get on with it then

Thanks... there's already a thread discussing this

Tierfreud,

Thanks very much for your reply. If you didn't mention the difference about the Titan and the Aluminum trim, I would have been very confused. The Aluminum trim here in the USA is much darker than the silvery Titan color you guys have in Europe.

The silvery Titan color you have is usually what we have come to expect when someone says "aluminum" trim in cars. Now I understand why all the official USA literature and pictures showed such a dark trim when it described it as aluminum. If you hadn't have said anything, I would have just thought it was the lighting of the pictures (Obviously, I haven't been into a dealership to see for myself in person).

If anyone is interested, there is already a thread running discussing this topic of the steering wheel in different trims.

I'd ideally like an interior without the i-drive screen, silver trim, but a sports steering wheel, so similar to that pic above, but with a sports steering wheel.. of course i want idrive and will get it, I just dont like the way that screen looks. A pop out screen would have been best in my book, but that would've broken after a year or two of hard driving for sure..

Don't make a judgement based on a photo. I've seen all three finishes in person. And you really just don't "get it" until you see them in person. Particularly the woods since both are new to BMW. My opinion: the aluminum looks good with black and terra and could even work with the beige, but it's just too monochromatic with the gray for my taste. The walnut is very dark. Think slightly darker than the e46 myrtle wood trim with a strong emphasis on black from the grain pattern. It would go with all interiors. The poplar is a warm medium brown with a very busy grain. It goes with all interiors, but is probably best on beige and gray since their relatively bright colors take away some of that busy effect. For my taste it would be a little too much contrast with black or terra, but I've seen it with black and it didn't look bad. It's all a matter of taste.

I didn't even notice that European e90's equipped with 6 cylinders (meaning even the 325i) get the chrome grille AND chrome window trim . Why these cosmetic differences between US and Euro versions???

Who knows how much the chome grilles and chrome window trim will cost in the aftermarket?

Why the differences? Maybe because the non-chrome trim is reserved for the lowest-end models.

In the U.S. that happens to be the 325i.

In Europe that happens to be the 320i and maybe even the 320d.

Armen52,

Yep, in Europe (UK at least), only the 6 cyliner engines get the chrome surround and chrome grill treatment. However, the 325i does not get chrome exhaust housings (UK) only the 330i does.

All 4 cylinder engines do not get any additional chrome effects - only on the kidney outer surround, not the slats.
