Wow, you've got big plans. I'm a little jealous.

Your dyno on post 506 definitely motivated me to take the plunge. What mods are done on your car for power?

I have, but no dynos. I don't think we have all the proper tables available in the current XDF to utilize them. Car does feel faster above 5k rpms though at the same boost.

Honestly it should be us thanking you. It was your idea and hard work that gave us another way to harness more hp .... which is especially awesome for us N52 folks. You should be extremely proud, heck BPC offers a tune to go with your mod. I know your mod is the next big mod I'm going to do ... just timing it so I can have BPC install and tune.

Seriously ... Kudos to you!

It's the sameP/N. I'll be the 1st SULEVer most likely when I reevaluate my life after installing a whole new suspension...

Here is a recent PM answer-

MILVs add +1mm to the intake valve lift. These are 6 BMW OEM parts machined to do this. They only add the extra lift from 80% to WOT. They have been installed on AT and MT. They add 10-12+ HP across the whole power band. You need a 'tune' to unleash their total benefit. BPC is the best tune available.

I would install your 3IM and aFe Momentum Pro 5R intake and then the MILVs. You will need a BPC tune to tie them all together and make the 3IM and MILVs work to their fullest potential. All together these will add 30-35rwHP to your N52. All thru the stock exhaust. More if exhaust added, headers not needed.

MILVs install is about 30 minutes after the Valve Cover is removed (1 hour off, less back on). Good time to replace the VC gasket.

got everything unbolted on the valve cover. It wasn't coming off so I took a break to review some videos. Looks like I need to break it free from the gasket with some force. Will be hoping to finish it off tomorrow and get the MILVs installed. Headers and 3IM right after that and we should be rocking.

Be sure you have all the bolts removed - its easy to miss one. Ot shouldn't take a lot of force to remove the cover.

I watched a bunch of videos and after I got stuck I noticed most of them that do the valve cover don't show them actually breaking it free from the engine. I finally found one after I had tried to pry with a screwdriver. I ended using metal body clip tools and was able to get it to break. All the screws were undone and I could pull them up and down with my hand and spin them. It was just really stuck to the engine.

There were some casualties. Let me know if I need a new VC and how bad I screwed up. Heres the summary with pictures:
  • I broke an endcap off that looks like I can clean up and JB weld back on
  • I scraped one of the middle cavities (this is below the end cap in pic 1)
  • I marred up some of the metal
  • I messed up the edge of the valve cover
  • I put some divets in the valve cover

The plastic VC is unfortunately not very robust. Its up to you - it might be ok, but if you don't want to go through the trouble a second time, consider replacement.

Too bad BMW cheaped out on 2007+ N52s..

I'm going to reassess tomorrow, but I'd prefer to use the money for other needed mods.

Does anyone know what that end cap is for?

Just be sure when installing the MILVs to push the install washer ALL the way on before tightening the spring hold down bolt.

Well, the hurdles continue. I bought a deep socket 22mm thinking it would fit and it doesn't. Need a regular short socket. Store is closed now. Hopefully tomorrow will be the day. I am going to try to do a proper video with someone else filming as I turn the crank and show the cam lobes exactly etc, so we have a good video of information for the future.

I repaired my valve cover with JB weld to hold the plastic end cap and any divets that I thought were suspect. I'll see how that holds tomorrow.

I got the old part out with some minimal wiggling but the new one doesn’t want to go in. Is my cam at the wrong position? Can I move it?
