Question Loss of Power and strange revs | 2006 n52 330i

Hi Guys,

I was driving home on the M4 today when I decided to floor it from 40mph to about 70mph as the traffic had cleared up. I was foot to the floor for few seconds and then backed off. I then noticed the engine light had lit up amber and noticed a slight loss of power. Then about 5mins later I noticed the light had gone, but the car still felt sluggish.

I made it home, stopped the engine and the restarted a few mins later, but being around home I can't really get pass 20mph, but the car seemed to be fine again

Any ideas on what this could be or if anyone has experienced this?

Thanks in advance,

Bhavik

Could be a number of things, but likely a bad spark plug threw a fit. Get the codes read as there's likely a fault logged.

Yeah, read the codes - there should still be a shadow code on there so you can see what the DTC was.

Mine threw a CEL, looked up the code that suggested VANOS sensor, and sounds similar to how yours was. I just cleaned my sensors and the filters - and the CEL just cleared itself actually - I didn't even clear it!

Cheers guys, will get it booked into a garage. This morning when I set off for work, I got about 3 miles away from home and it was feeling pretty under powered so I ended up turning around and coming back home. It's not showing the engine warning light at the moment either.

Problem solved, turns out the misfire was caused by one of the sparks plugs being loose. So the garage removed them all to re-check, clean and torque back up to the correct setting. I also decided to have an oil change done while it was in as well and the car is running smooth again.

I recommend the guys at KMK Autos in Croydon, decent honest service from what I've seen so far and their prices are reasonable. Oh and they cleaned my car as well which was a nice surprise.
