Springs or Coils for new wheel setup?

Just got some new wheels and was wondering if i could get away with using springs instead of buying coilovers to achieve the drop im going for.

Basically i bought LM reps sizes:
19*9.5+25 (235/35/19)
19*10+22 (245/35/19)

and im trying to get this kind of drop:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=713886

I know in the link the guy used coils BUT can i pull off that look and wheels with just springs...lets say H&R racing springs?

Im in a 07 e90 335i.

Any useful comments would be greatly appreciated.

HR Race springs will probably be lower than you want , and with race springs you will probably blow your shocks quite fast.

HR Race examples
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=336312

Hr sport will lower less and shocks will last longer than with race springs, but if you have old/high mileage shocks already. Those will probably be gone quite soon.

Here is some HR sport examples.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...sport+official

Of course with coilovers you can get your ride height exactly where you want.

I was debating the same things for quite a while and decided to just but a used set of coilovers for $700 instead of H&R sport springs. Reason being, I heard the ride quality is not that great on H&R sport springs (unless you pair them with koni yellows), and I would prefer the adjustability of the coilovers. Also H&R sport springs + koni yellows are almost the same price of used coilovers

Check out BC racing coilovers: XTR performance sells them and you can get them here to: http://www.flushstance.com/bcracing-coilovers/bmw/

They give a very good drop and come with front camber plates, if you want to have the ability to slam your car whenever you want in the future buy the BR Type- Extreme drop version.

Hope this helps!

the biggest question is.....How much are you looking to spend?? 99% of people will probably say do coils, so you don't have to do it twice. And I agree with this, BUT I say get whats in your budget. If you can not afford coils get the springs for now. The ride on the Race springs is not that bad. I've had race and I have coils. The Race springs will put an added stress on your struts, but it will also give you some time to save a little more money to possibly get coils.

Coils ..... can adjust height to your satisfaction......

Springs might end up with uneven heights .....

oh and FYI....most members on here are going to tell you get KW coils. how soon are you looking??? I'm looking at taking my ksports off pretty soon. But IDK if they will fit the e90. I put them on 08/18/12 @ 60k and I have 64ishK on the dash now. I'm thinking about getting air...so if I get air I will no longer need the coils.

If you don't plan on adjusting your suspension often and you're looking for a cheaper alternative, go with springs. It'll lower your car just enough so it won't look as silly as OEM height.

Coils are the way to go if you're looking for flexibility/adjustability.
