Which oil for BMW 3 E90 engine

Hello all

I have 318d, facelift model (E90). Which oil you recommend to use? My local non-authorized service man recommend to use Castrol Magnatec Professional MP 5W-30, instead of BMW LL 5W-30. He said that this original BMW LL 5W-30 is not good as Castrol Magnatec Professional MP 5W-30. Also problem is that I can get BMW LL 5W-30 for 8€/liter for Castrol Magnatec Professional MP 5W-30 I need to pay him approx 18€/liter.

I know that also BMW LL 5W-30 oil is from Castrol, but there are some differences in additive...

So any advice of experts on this ?

not sure if its different for the diesel's but I've always read that it is recommended to go with any BMW LL approved/labelled oil. I use BMW approved Mobil1 0w-40 for my 06' 330i and have never had an issue.

Well Castrol Magnatec Professional MP 5W-30 has on label:
- BMW Longlife-04

My mechanic said that original BMW LL 5w-30 is not good for motors N47 - chain problem, for these reason now I'm asking if this is true ? Because next time I will buy oil on internet, which will be much cheaper than his.

Under your hood it will tell you a resource to see all "approved" BMW oils. I am under warranty, so I let the dealer handle it. When I'm finally out of warranty, and if I still have the car, I will most likely go with the Mobil full synthetic stuff.

Ahhh IC, reading your OP I read it as the one he was pushing you towards wasn't BMW LL approved. Hmm sorry I couldn't help out, hopefully someone else can chime in.
