pre-03/2007 vs. 04/2007+

I hear there are some differences in the models up to 03/2007 and those 04/2007 and above. Can anyone explain what these differences are in lamen terms? All that I can dig up is that pre-03/2007 have some coding limitations, but I do not understand why.

I tried to use the BMWhat app on my 04/2007 335i and it would not let me code through bluetooth, which according to the website was only a limitation for pre-03/2007 models. Is it possible that my 04/2007 has the pre-03/2007 limitations?

How can I tell? Thanks!

From 03/2007 BMW began incorporating the D-CAN protocol for communication with certain modules. You will need a K+DCAN cable / Bluetooth adapter for coding on these vehicles.

This K + DCan cable is required for POST 03/2007 vehicles?

Are there options for vehicles before this date?
Thank you.

Is it possible for a 04/2007 to not have been built with the D-CAN protocol?

Is there a way to tell what mine is using?

I guess it's possible but not likely. I've not seen one.

Where are you getting your manufacture date from? VIN?

The VIN decoder says production date of 4/4/2007. A sticker under the hood near the hood latch says 3/27/2007.

Where can I look on the car to see if mine has the D-CAN protocol?

Or do I have to fail/succeed and connecting it to my laptop to determine this?
