Question Diagnostics & Coding for Dummies How-To Guides?

Is there a coding for dummies how-to guide anywhere? Something for beginner level.

I'm going in circles trying to make sense of the different programs out there.
What each one does, what the acronyms stand for, what are they latest versions and where to get them. Do they run only on win xp or windows 10 and MAC OS also?

Where does one start. I've searched the various BMW forums and many of the guides are outdated from years ago. Going in circles here.

Help!

The car is nearly 10 years old to.
If you don't know your way around computers
best to get something like the Bimmergeeks.net pro tools.
Its canned coding.

The Inpa suilte can be run on anything from windows xp to windows 10.
If you want to run it on an apple product you need a vistual machine.

If you want to run Ista D or Ista P best to run on windows 7 to 10.
xp based windows pc's have small drives and slow speeds is the main
reason.

The bimmergeeks.net cable and downloads work fine
as long as you know your way around a computer.

Thanks for the info. The app sounds like a good option. I'd like to learn on the computer as well.

Is there a dummies guide that explains what each of those programs are? What are datens? Where does one get the latest versions of those programs?
