Patience for now.

We need a good flashing tool before we can take this much further. That's currently being developed.

We have giant chunks of the calibration files sorted and we have a pretty good idea how to achieve most normal goals.

I'll update this post with some additional news over the week end.

Is there anything I can do to help? I've had a bit of experience with modifying calibration files, winols, software/programming, etc.

I'm not ignoring you, We certainly need a few Beta testers but we currently have no way to protect our files from unwanted distribution.

Actually with today's latest test file, I feel pretty good about building test files for other cars, Just need some friends to sort out how we can control distribution of our work. I'm not too worried about myself but their are others involved.

Do you have any ideas towards the changes you would like to see in the OEM calibration file?

I've had this car for a couple of months, and is my first auto. I just feel that the oem shift points in D and DS could do with a little bit of work to suit my driving style. I would like to quicken up the shifts a little bit, particularly in DS and M modes.

In terms of the calibration files, I've not actually looked through any myself, as I'm a bit unsure what I need in order to be able to do this, although I have seen the many screenshots posted in various threads about 6hp recalibration.

I would certainly be up for some beta testing if you can get past the protection issue, although I certainly wouldn't be one to distribute anything (although I'm sure that's what everyone says!!!!)

I would be interested in having my transmission tuned as well. I have headers, 3IM, and will be buying the milvs as well as a tune. I'm sure I could benefit.

What program or 0pa file does your car have?. ZB number if you don't know.

FWIW, I think we pretty much plan (or should plan) on only ever supporting one program version at a time - preferably the latest one. Once these cars reach a certain age they rarely change anyway.

Agreed, It's my understanding that we only have two different current programs to deal with anyways. The E85 and the rest.

The E85 only had one program or calibration file issued for the ZF gearbox and it was never updated, so it's easy.

I can work with this, I've already built files for this ZB number. The issue we might find is your Kombi may not display the current gear. The EU based car I wrote tunes for could not display the current gear until he replaced the Kombi from a new vehicle.

Do you know if he ever tried updating that kombi with WinKFP? I have to wonder if newer software is enough.

No, I think the owner had easy access to the newer part and just made a quick swap. who knows, It might have been a coding thing, I guess we won't know until we try the modified calibration file on a few more cars.

There is a Tool 32 command that will activate the gear display but it only works until you shut off the ignition. We never tried that on the E60 either.

That trick only displays the current gear and not the commanded gear. You get a delay in the display as it will only show the current gear after the shift is 100% complete. No more recognized clutch slip and the torque clams on the engine have been released.

I have a " light" week end and I'll just post an 0da for the Kombi activation, we'll see how many people try it and get it working.

Try INPA, Tools32 or INSTA-D, I think either will give you the ZB or program numbers.

See if this file activates your Kombi.

Rename this file as an 0da file and flash with the correct equipment. Winfkp expertmode and a good cable. I understand the BimmerGeeks version is about the best around and most of the rest will crash the TCU. Flash should take something like 60 seconds.

It's a simple calibration file that has been properly signed by our tools. No tricks, program or boot loader modifications. The TCU will see this as a valid BMW file. If you have a problem, you can reflash the OEM file back.

I flash with the UIF turned off and I'm up to test file number 59, so the system is pretty safe.

If you are not familiar with the process, get help!

This is a calibration file for an E60 335D with the ZB # of 7564212. No one else should try to load it.

Forgive me, I'm new to winkfp! Just had a quick look, and while going through winkfp, and familiarising myself, I noticed that when selecting "choose zusb" that my zb number isn't listed. I also noticed that in the gke191 data file, there is a file named gke191.his that list my zb 7564212 against another number, 7573489, which is in the list in winkfp. Would this be a newer updated zb number that should be used?

Okay, so managed to get it flashed. Get the gear numbers in drive, aswell as manual, but nothing in DS anymore, the DS has completely gone. Also get an error showing up in inpa 4E86, which wasn't there when I scanned the car last week, along with a dsc warning on the kombi. Cleared all codes, but egs code is persistent

Edit: just been for a drive, and when the shifter is moved over into the DS position, it throws a gear symbol in the kombi, which goes away is it it shifted either forwards or backwards to put it into manual, or back over into D.

This good news and bad.

The good news, the system works for your car. 100% we can build custom 0dA files with proper RSA signatures and checksums. I've already built about two dozen for another pre LCI diesel, so there was little worry there. How long did it take to flash?

Now the bad, reading through the older emails between myself and the owner of the other car, he was convinced the hardware in the pre LCI diesel car was the problem and swapped Kombi units. The new Kombi worked without any issues.

I'm hoping one of the many Coding "gods" on this forum can step in and give us an easier solution or at least point us in the right direction. I will be posting a file for the E90, E85 over the the next few days. I have all of these GKE 211s fully mapped but I can only give away the Kombi activation.

I know this byte change worked on at least one other pre LCI gasoline E90s. Maybe he can step in and make some suggestions.

One more thought, after digging a little deeper into the old emails I remembered that we tried a BMW Alpina file and the Kombi display results where the same as you results for this car.

Yes, there was an Alpina version of the GKE191.

Flashing took about a minute or so.
When I say DS is completely gone, I mean any reference to DS in the kombi display is gone. The DS functionality is still there whilst driving, so is definitely in the DS mode, just no longer displays any gear information.

I would say updating the kombi with WinKFP should be the first step if it hasn't already been updated.

I friend dropped me a line and suggested the following:

"try changing build date to #0911 in NCS and recoding in expert mode"

I am useless when it comes to Coding but the source is very knowledgeable. I can PM the contact if you need.
