if you press the DTC button once it allows your wheels to slip more than when off (off being not pressing anything after youve started the car) - for instances like snow and a bit of back end out action in corners. its supposedly acts like an electronic limited slip diff. theres threads all over the forum about DTC and DSC DSC being your wheels will have no electronic traction aids turned in order for people like DXB to do his infamous burnouts

1. Default position when you start the car:
The DSC+ system is active. The car has full stability and traction control. This means that the engine power will be cut if the driving wheels start to spin. 2. DTC on - Short press of the DTC button: When you engage DTC, the DSC system remains active, but the limits at which it will intervene are increased. So the car will wheelspin a bit before engine power is reduced. 3. DSC+ off - Hold DTC button for more than 5 secs This turns the traction and stability control systems off. The driver has full control and the engine power will not be reduced, no matter how much wheelspin you get or how far the car gets out of shape in a bend. Officially, BMW state that DTC is for low traction situations, e.g. mud, gravel or ice. However, it's pretty clear that it's also designed to allow for a more sporting drive. Motoring journalists often describe it as emulating an electronic limited slip diff. |

but in reality it's nothing like a clutch LSD and it never could be.

It's true that there are many threads on this subject. But, I'm not sure I've ever seen a definitive answer to the following question: does switching from full DSC to DTC do more than just allow wheel spin? I dunno if it's just my imagination, but I always think that the car feels a bit 'looser' when I am in DTC mode.
Some people seem to think that if you switch to DTC, then it will only make a difference in those situations where, if you were still in DSC, you would see the flashing orange warning sign. It's my understanding, though, that this is not correct. It may be just me, but I feel my car drives differently, in general, when I have DTC on. |

DTC allows more wheel spin (a lot more) and much more vehicle yaw to occur before intervening. For example, whilst on a trackday, I found with DTC on you could brake really really hard, upsetting the car, and then throw the car partly sideways into turns at various speeds and exit with up to 1/4 turn of oppo lock on and be spinning a rear wheel. I never saw the yellow light flash once. With DSC ON the car just understeered terribly towards the curbs, with no power available to do anything about it. All you could do was brake more to slow down and recover it that way from a snails pace. Also in the snow with DTC on I've had loads of fun with the back end out at 45degrees and loads of wildy varying lock and wheel spin with out much flashing of the yellow light. TBH unless you are about to spin the car, or be wheel spinning violently, I can't see when DTC would kick in over having all the systems off. |

I find it cuts in quite obtrusively when coming out of a 90 degree junction hard. Need it fully off for those hooligan situatuions.

What do you expect with your torque monster?
Get a quaiffe, DSC/DTC off and try the same and you'll end up in a ditch sharpish.... instead of noisily spinning one wheel and going nowhere. |

Is DTC only on X drive? I have a 328xi and in the snow and gravel it really straightens out and slows down if any fish tail at all. With DTC on I get more leeway? So actually less x drive effect?
