Thanks wildcatcrazy!

But do you know why the value is -1 instead of 1 like the other ones I see online? Is it because I didn't turn on engine and just leave the key in ignition?
To be honest, I'm not totally sure. I think I remember seeing one time it had to do with the amount of times a battery has been registered to the car. Like I said, if you drill down to the IBS menu in INPA and it shows your registration, you're good to go.

THanks Wildcatcrazy, I have just check and it is register... not sure what's with the -1 instead of 1

Question Error while coding new Battery Ah

When trying to Code the Battery Ah Setting in the CAS module following the guide (new battery is different from original) (Aftermarket Battery Registration DIY.pdf), I received an error: >

COAPI-1141: FSW invalid HELL_OFFSET_DEFAULT

Just after step 4.:

Coding the Battery Ah Setting in the CAS Module
1. Just to avoid any mistake close NCS we are going to start from the beginning.
2. Load NCS >File>load profile> “FSW PSW MAN”
3. F1>F3>select your chassis>select “CAS”
4. Press F6 for back

COAPI-1141: FSW invalid HELL_OFFSET_DEFAULT

What am I doing wrong? I am coding a 2011 328i Sedan using NCSExpert and v.57.0_SP-Daten.

Wink

FSW_PSW.MAN file was not empty, that caused the error

Hi,

I have had to change the battery on my car, just reading through this thread on information. My original battery is 90Ah and 900CCA, my new battery is 95Ah and 850CCA. On somebody's instructions i looked at the available recoding options and there doesn't seem to be one for 95Ah. In this instance do i just need to register the battery and not worry about recoding? Thanks in advance.

Thanks

No need to code unless you changed the battery type. You're good, just register it.

You may just need to code each module one by one in expert mode. That's the equivalent.

NO the empty MAN file is the worst way. Do it the right way.
I've followed the guide on page 3, although my NCS was newer and slightly different I've managed to successfully change the ah rating from 80 to 90 verified by INPA.

Why do you refer the MAN file as the worst way to code the battery? Can you explain the 'right way' or PM me please as I'm interested to know the correct procedure.

Thanks

Do I have a different menu option?

I'm wondering if I've done something superficial or if my menus in INPA might be different for some reason. All these instructions are pertaining to what to do if you don't have the power module or whatever it's called under "Body." But for me, I can register a new battery under my Engine menu.

Here's how I did it:
1. Choose my model (E91) from the head menu.
2. Engine
3. MSV70 (since I have the N52)
4. Status Analog/Digital
5. IBS - Powermanagement
6. Then there's F5 for "Register Battery Replacement"

It immediately pops up with a small window that says "Ok" and then I just clicked the Ok button it had.

Then if I select F2 and F3 under that IBS menu I can see that all the histogram data has been reset, the "last battery replacement at km" showed the current value. I had, on a previous day, looked at all these values and they were clearly the original ones. Hundreds of hours listed for most of the options. So I know it's reset at least those.

One thing that's concerning is "% Start Capacity Current" = 29.7, but current charge status was 88%. In the course of 10 minutes running, the alternator shoved 9 Ah worth of pixies into the battery. The battery did have a nice dust layer on it so maybe it was just sitting on the shelf too long. No date on the battery I could see. With the car off voltage was 12.4 V (is that low for an off the shelf battery?).

Do you guys know that this doesn't really accomplish the end goal and that why you haven't mentioned this method? I think it does the job. One other thing I know is that with the old battery, the hidden dash menu voltage would read 14.4 V running. Now with the new battery it reads 13.8 ish. So again, looks like it's doing things differently.

As a side note, I thought I had the original battery (MY2006) as INPA had suggested. Pulled out an OEM battery. However the rear battery tie down screw and bracket sitting in the bottom like spare parts suggest otherwise I have the big battery so either a crappy mech or PO saw how hard it is to do it right and said "Lol, F that." I HIGHLY doubt it vibrated loose. I spent an hour and a half removing panels to do it right

So i just got the coding software installed and my cable came in the mail. All in time for me to change the battery in my car. I followed the instructions on here and had a few issues I hope someone can help with.

1. I did the programming of the battery since i changed to an AGM battery. I had no problems doing the programming. Everything worked just like ti was in the instructions. However when i pulled the CAS back down afterwards, the changes were not in there. It's like they aren't staying. Also when adding a VO of A090 it doesn't stay.

2. When registering the battery, I tell Tool32 to open the MSD80 or whatever and it just sits and the cursor is spinning, but it never actually opens. I tried opening the alternative files suggested with the same results.

3. And to make matters worse, I had someone do coding on my car a couple of years ago and now all of those are not working. maybe that's due to the battery change, not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

For added info i have a 2009 335 e92 pre-lci

I'm new to BMW. What is the purpose of registering your battery? I have never heard of this before.

I got this same error when I try. I have an N55, though, which is not MSD80 but MEVD172. When I try the same instructions using MEVD172 I get same result. Any have any insight? Anyone have INPA working with the N55 (Fxx)?

Hey all having some odd issues with my car, namely my heater won't work (the rear defroster doesn't work nor does the fan) so my guess is when I removed the battery & DME (was out of the car for 1 week +) the battery info must have been wiped? Can anyone confirm this?

Fast forward, I tried to go back to 90Ah from 80Ah and now it won't do it I'm using NCS/Tool32/INPA.
I've tried what seems like 100 times NCS/Tool32. INPA still report it as 80Ah.
I've tried differently to re-code it but nothing works.

Idea is that you should be able to re-code as many times or different value codes with NCS/Tool32 once you done it. Oddly it won't.
No errors just like the 1st time I re-coded it.

FSW-PSW.TRC saved to FSW_PSW.MAN file.
Then modified KLASSE_BATTERIE value to 90Ah from 80Ah. Then run the job once.
Then registered with Tool32. INPA verification comes back 80Ah every single time.

I'm lost at this point............................................. .............
Did need to disconnect the battery terminal as if changing the battery?

Are you saying to use 90Ah for an 80Ah battery??? I just got an 80 and was going to code it to 90.... if I can wrap my mind around the process.

No. If your batt is 80Ah, code it to 80Ah. Stock I believe is default to 90Ah.
That's why buying the 90Ah batt is so much simpler.

I bought 90Ah batt, then coded it to 80Ah, then I had hard time going back to 90Ah. It was PITA till I figured it out. I could do it easily after.

It's been a while but I created a NCS FSW_PSW.MAN file from TRC file I think(over a year ago now). And replace the 80Ah value to 90Ah. Flash the file to DME.
There's a DIY - "Aftermarket battery registration DIY.PDF".

Thanks for the information. I have 80ah, tried to register and can't even do that. INPA is killing me. That said, i was able to delete the recent data.... but the car still thinks the battery is an old 80Ah..

In that case you open up Toolset 32 (under EDIABAS folder):
1. Open MSD80.prg
2. Look up steuern_batterietausch_registri. (near bottom of job list)
3. Go to Jobs menu
4. Select Run Job

(May alternatively be under MSV70 or MSV80.prg)

Also, and this is important:
THIS IS ONLY FOR REGISTERING AN OEM BATTERY FROM BMW! Alternate replacements will need additional coding to match voltage etc differences
Windows won't let me open MSD80, what do I use to open it? (I'm trying to open it directly from my program files Ediabas folder.)
