E91 Wagon N52 to N54 Questions

New to the forums things, so cut me some slack here! I am considering an N54 swap into my 2011 328i e91 since the N54 version is not available in US.

I have a few questions before I even endeavor into acquiring a donor car or sourcing parts.

I have a GM 6-speed automatic; wondering if this transmission would work for the time being until a manual swap happens, or if manual swap needs to happen with the motor swap.

Also wondering about the wiring situation, what is the conversion process on the wiring/electrical from an N54 (likely out of a 335i) into the e91 wagon, and is it likely a pain in the ass? Wiring harness and DME conversion? I have heard mixed things.

Any answers, advice, or links to other threads appreciated!

Buy a complete donor. No, the GM transmission won't work.

Might be easier to buy a working 335 for when you have the need for speed.

Motopro292 That’s what I thought on the transmission. Do you know anything about the wiring harnesses, though? I hear there are differences between sedan and wagon. Wondering if I could just hope to hunt down the harness from a Euro wagon with the N54 in it... if no luck, wondering what it would take to convert to wagon.

Need the wagon life WITH the need for speed, though. It’s currently my daily driver, but I will need to go even bigger eventually, so this swap may be my “need for speed” project.
