Big hell no in my book. You would have to pay me to take a higher milage turbo charged BMW. Way too many things can go wrong, especially if you dont know how the car was driven and maintained. If you are on a budget than this is the perfect way to give your bank account an ass kicking. Always remember that BMWs depreciate but the parts dont and neither does the labor that mechanics will charge you.

As far as the car itself. No navi would be a hard pass for me. The fact that the car is clean does not mean shit. Any ashhole can get a good detail, including the engine bay to wow a potential sucker.

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party...
Camshaft replacement at 48,979 miles is a bit of an eye opener.

OP what did you decide?

N55 motor?

If you are looking to mod or go full bolt on and make tons of HP, the n54 is your best bet.

What is goal with the car? Fun daily driver?

People are gonna say you're an idiot for considering a 100k mile German car (especially turbo), but realistically at this price point what else could you get that compares? If you are a DIY type and aren't afraid to do typical maintenance items 10k for this much car is very reasonable.

Make sure to budget for replacement items/repairs and you'll be good.

I agree on that. The internals of the n55 & N54 are very stout. So, for a camshaft to go at 48k? Ouch.

I think I'd go back the drawing board.

You can find a 2007 - 2010 for $10,000 easily.

Exactly. I’d even go as far as to repeat what one YouTube guy said (Nathan’s bmw workshop, I think) and say that you need to buy a vehicle with broken stuff you are comfortable fixing. Next time, I’ll get an e90 with leaking valve and ofhg gaskets making sure this are accounted for in the price. Heck, I saw some 335i with blown turbos for 2 grand, wish I jumped on that, it was gone in a day. Bottom line, broken stuff on this cars makes for awesome deals if you can work on them yourself,
