328i rain water

Sorry if you guys think this is a stupid question. The other day I was looking at my valve cover gasket. I took off the cabin air filter, the huge plastic piece that it sits on, the beauty cover and the 2 side covers that I circled in yellow. It started to rain really badly so I just shut the hood and went inside. I went to put it all back on and I noticed there was a decent amount of water pooled around the far back #6 ignition coil inside the rectangular pieces (I just left it). Could rain water have drained anywhere and damaged something since I didn't have those large pieces on and is the water around the #6 ignition coil something to worry about?

Assuming the ECU modules cover was on tight, you're fine. Looks like it is.

If it was a big storm, it's possible some splash from water sheeting down the windshield made it's way into the cabin air intakes. Check the front floor for dampness. If so, run the AC for awhile on recirc to dry everything out.

What about the water around the #6 ignition coil? I couldn't get it out so I just left it.

Not clear if you mean in the area of the coil, or actually in the plug hole around the coil.

Pull the coil out (unclip the connector, twist and pull). The plug hole should be fully dry. Use twisted paper towels to dry out the socket if it isn't. The let everything sit for a bit to fully dry. Reinsert the coil and you should be fine. Make sure to fully seat the plug hole seal and the connector.

Run the car without the engine cover on. It will boil off pretty quick.

I just went back and took all the stuff off because I was kind of paranoid about it. The water wasn't there anymore. Here is a picture of the area I was talking about. The rectangular spaces around the ignition coil.

Not important. Gets wet there pretty often.

If a bit of rain water under the beauty cover (i.e., that big piece of plastic on top of the engine that is not water-proof or actually necessary) was a problem most people's cars wouldn't be on the road most of the time.

Now, about your gasket.... How did that look?

The gasket looked good as far as I could tell. I got a new cover and gasket put on during the summer.
