The shift register is just a chip onboard the cluster that drives the LED shift lights. This shift register just receives data from the microprocessor on the cluster. I would propose just wiring the lines from the shift register to a custom daughterboard, since they are not driven by the cluster's processor on a 335i.

I am speculating that theres a canbus message sent by the TCU or DME that tells the cluster to light up the LED shift lights. If you could sniff the bus and replicate the message with a small custom module then it wouldn't be a too hard of a project. Just requires a bit of time and some development. If there was a fair amount of interest in this I might consider tackling the project, but you'd probably be paying a lot to just enable the shift lights
A fully functioning cluster would be and Id be happy to be a guinea pig on this if you are up for the challenge Vince lel
When you say "paying a lot" are we talking wiper blade replacement or turbo upgrade prices?

So is it safe to speculate that the 'shift register' is communicating directly to the TCU on the M3? This is the only difference with M3 DCT and N54 DCT.

But like you say, the RPM cluster is receiving a single already that needs to be sniffed or tapped to achieve this.. But no one in AU is as tech as you mate, so if you've given up... we are as good as dead on this solution

You'd had a massive global interest mate! I'm sure they'd all be interested in this.

Is just me that actually likes the oem e92 cluster lol ..... But I'm def starting to like the m3 cluster the more I see it retro fitted. If the shift lights were easily made to work it would jump my interest up 100 levels

Lol won't be turbo upgrade prices. Might be a few hundy each if I have to disassemble the cluster, fit the custom module and go through the recalibration of the dials again.

If I can find a reasonably priced wrecked m3 cluster I'd be happy to pay coupe hundy for research and develop purposes for the greater good of the community

I will fund your R&D. Give me your account details and I will send you a five hundred bucks. In return, I get mine done for free and 15% from the first 10 sold

Sound good? Hahaha

Also the temp gauge being slightly off centre to the right as the N54 rubs hotter than the S65
Thanks Dr J.
I wasnt too fussed on the graduations as I dont plan on running anything but 98 in this as its my daily. I have my GTR for that
And as for the the temp gauge being off centre, not worried in the slightest

Would be interested in this, could you get the shift indicator to work with the JB4 shift settings? so its dynamic, what ever you set it to?

Definitely won't work with the JB4 settings. I could design in a usb interface where you can set the shift RPM settings via a laptop though.

Been a bit lazy with any sort of updates on this thread as i have been busy with other things, primarily my GTR.
But a slight update, a few months back I had a walnut blast as well as a service done up at Advan.
The difference in idle, response and acceleration was like night and day.
Here is a before and after shot of one of the ports.
The boys told me it was one of the worst cases they had seen.
Im guessing it hadn't been done before.

While the walnut blast was being done they checked over the car.
I had told them i had a coolant leak, but couldnt find where the problem was coming from.
Turns out I had a pin hole leak in my radiator, so a brand new Koyorad item was ordered and the boys at Advan installed it for me.

Next after that was the installation of the Akebono Ceramic brake pads.
Well all i can say about these is.... WOW!!!
Still have a very OEM feel to them, but gone is the brake dust.
After washing the car, I went for a period of 3 weeks of continual driving in all sorts of weather and road conditions, and when i went to wash the car the next time, the rims still looked clean!! I am very impressed.
I used to get brake dust build up and my rims looking dirty as all hell after only a couple days of driving.
Cant recommend them highly enough

The things you find when you buy a 2nd hand car.

I would have come on the cruise, but i had already made plans.
EB did ask me to join in. I hope the weather wasnt too bad for you guys.

Do you have an OCC mate? The oil leak seems pretty bad on yours, even oil residual around the intake port.

No i dont. I think it may also be due to my turbos blowing a little blue smoke every now and then when i pull up to stop. Only very occasionally though, which tells me the seals are on their way out. And a little bit of oil may also be recirculating through the intake system because of it.
