Just got off the phone Brisbane BMW, aparently due to the cut back in production for all BMW vehicle, the production date will be push back to this month instead of April like promised. WFT!!!!

Aparently there is also a worldwide shortage on all diesel engine cars for BMW.

Looks like i will just have to keep waiting. It is schedule to arrive in July now.............. GREAT!!!

That would be super frustrating. Funny how they scale back production and then claim there is a shortage, talk about manipulating demand !

Actually ... very logical way to survive in these tough economic times. In my industry, overseas manufactures are closing a week per month to manipulate production thereby no oversupply, demand remains to production schedule and prices not eroded.

I get that but it's still to the detriment of the customer who by rights should be king right now.

My local BMW dealer said the same thing. Although demand here is down somewhat, it is not extreme (only in particular segments) but worldwide BMW is, like most European makers, scaling back its production. This also affects production allocated to Australia.

Hence if demand here is not reduced by the same amount, there will be shortages. An article in the Fin Review showed a similar pattern with consumer electronics.

EDIT: According to the dealer, their allocation of 320d was sold out until late July (this was in March when I was told this) - seems to be what the punters are after. Also falls in with the 'value' ethos that seems to be proliferating around the place - people are still happy to spend money but want value.

I have been told that the has been a tag number assigned for my order therefore it is booked in for production. The sales manager said that this is about the only info that BMW gives customers.

The main concern that i have now is regarding the 30% government rebate. I thought the car need to be delivered b4 june 30th. If that is the case, then im in trouble.

Only needs to be order before 30th June 2009 - can be delivered anytime up to 30th June 2010. You may have a problem with the price though - I think only cars up to the luxury tax threshold qualify.

Thx eff1dude

I check with accountant and he told me exactly the same thing. With regards to price, I can only claim up to the luxury tax threshold. So anything over can not be deducted.

I was still hoping to pay for the car this fiancial year since we try to pay out the money before 30th June so company does not need to pay too much tax. Still very annoyed....

Cheers

Motor Magazine have published an initial review of the BMW 330d

Even if they have some figures wrong and a wierdo paragraph about the twin turbo diesel at the start, the review is still interesting.

I got a call from MotorlineBMW last week. They told me that the demo will be in next month. Hum???? My dealer in the valley said my car was one of the 1st to be order in Oz and it does not arrive untill July so i got no idea why the demo at motorline is coming earlier. Maybe BMW send out the demo 1st.

Price have come out at the dealerships. I think from memory base price for 330d is ~97,000 and 330d sports is around $100,000.

Update
Price is confirmed at $96582 for Excutive and $101550 for sport at Motorline

the dealers always get a shipment of demos first, as they're needed for testers & press cars.

The base price I have from the last price list that was available on BMW's website was $87,250 for the 330d... this is of course excluding delivery, stamp duty etc etc.

Not really. The way it works is that the dealers have an allocation that they have to fill every month. As soon as a new model comes available they will order it up based on colours & options from other models that are selling well.
When that car hits the dealer they will put it on as a demo only if it hasnt been sold already. These cars are availble to be bought at any time.
The first car we had here at Motorline was delivered early this week.
If it hadnt sold, it wouldve been a demo. Now we'll wait til another one arrives.

As both I and JamieA have stated in earlier posts, the base price for the 330d is in fact $87,250.00 before on-roads. Hope this doesn't upset the ACCC !

Don't go there... This is a sore point with me. Researching car and configuration options is now impossible via the web thanks to the Krudd government. Yet another example of big brother govt - sigh
