Top Speed 155?

I have a 335 with zsp and I can just barely get the guage to go over 150 mph. I have tried quite a few times in different conditions and even after 4-5 minutes it is still about 150.

I did change wheels to the M6 reps would this make a difference on my speedometer?

Doesn't it really matter?

#1 Tires properly inflated for > 100mph speeds?
#2 Try driving with a tail wind
#3 Try leaving the beer keg at home.

I don't know the size of the M6 wheels, but I suppose if they're larger and your using the same size of tire (ex, 255-35 18 --> 255-35 19) you might be on to something.

Is it a US spec 335? If so top speed is limited to 150 mph. If the wheel/tire combo is a different diameter than stock the speedo reading will be off.

Thanks, Mike.

from what I know, the top speed on these things is governed by the ECU at 155mph/250kmh

where the Xi and non zsp are governed at ~135mph
correct me if I'm wrong

you changed the wheels to reps.
they are heavy and they bring down the performance.
in most of my previous cars i got the top end at a lower gear
in my previous 5 gear manual car i got the top end at 4th gear since the 5th was for better fuel efficiency.

so you have to hit the 7k rpm limit at 5th gear and check this out

Why it's so important to go 155 mph? You can't drive 155 mph on any of U.S. highways. Since you did that on Autobahn in Germany, you should be able to enjoy while cruising at 120-140.

I have a 335i and I have no intention to go beyond 100, so 150 or 155 limit doesn't even matter to me.

I think 150 is as fast as my 335 will go. I had a loaner 328 non-sport that was limited at 130. It definetly wanted to go faster but was obviously limited. The wierd thing about the 150 is, it doesn't feel like a "hard" limit like in other cars.

I topped out my car last weekend and the speedo went to about 152 mph and wouldn't move from there.

Doesn't a piggyback ecu raise the top speed to 180+ or something like that?

uhh....no sir...piggy back ECU changes your PSI on the turbos and a few other settings if even that. Top speed is limited by a) governor and b) transmission. (don't flame me for not given an exact definition, too lazy to look it up)

If your tranny only holds 155mph, even w/ 600+ horsies, you will go as fast as your tranny can take you, given you'll reach that speed much faster, but maxed at that speed nonetheless

That's strange, because on my sti a reflash (cobb accessport) lifted the top speed from 150 to 170+ (as people claimed). Figured the same would apply for Vishnu, Dinan, etc.

Well to my knowledge, the 150/155 speed limit shows the tach pretty close to redline...

piggyback != reflash

Reflash = new ECU program, while a piggyback only "fools" the existing ECU to provide more boost. Therefore, the speed limit built into the ECU program still holds.

The top speed on ZSP cars is limited by the ECU and many of the popular flashes available remove the limiter entirely. The reason BMW sets the limits at 135 for standard cars and 155 for the ZSP ones is because the tires they come with are rated for those speeds.

All I'm saying is if you have one of the flashes which removes the ECU top speed limiter you will be able to fly right past 155, I don't have a 335i much less a chipped one so I don't know what speeds they're capable of without the limiter.

Personal experience and in a 328xi E92. It will go over 150 up to 155 and I was on the autobahn. Just got back from Europe. Even on the autobahn it's dangerous with traffic, I couldn't and wouldn't even try this in the states unless on a track. Think it might be your wheels, but I wouldn't see how it would drain that much power, think it's the speedo reading.

With drive-by-wire, the ECU just starts closing the throttle for you, so even though you have it pegged to the floor, the throttle body isn't WOT anymore. Feels like cruise control kicking in and holding it there.
