LCI (Chrome Accent) Cup Holders - $12!
I just discovered that you do not need to replace the entire cup holder if you're looking for the new chrome-accent LCI look. The front cover plate simply snaps off and is replaceable with the LCI version, which costs $6 per side. This will obviously take care of the peeling that the front covers are prone to.
Here's a photo of the LCI covers installed: I had my cupholder removed and disassembled (to fix sticking), which obviously helped with removal of the front plate, but I'm sure that with the right tool (tiny flathead or hook), it can be removed and replaced with the cup holders still in the dash. The part nos. for the LCI covers are: Black: 51459229092 - left 51459229096 - right Beige: 51459229094 - left 51459229098 - right Cream Beige: 51459229095 - left 51459229099 - right Grey: 51459229093 - left 51459229097 - right Last edited by yakev724; 01-28-2012 at 04:45 PM.. |

Also, if someone has a spare left-side (curved) complete cupholder laying around, I could use it as I bent the spring inside mine by accident. Let me know, thanks!

Great DIY.
Everyone planning to do this, do yourself a favor and get a pry bar to prevent any scuffs or scratches on the soft plastic. I just did this and it was very easy. |

No problem, enjoy!
Great photos JS, thanks! In case anyone didn't know, you can replace the radio knobs with the LCI chrome/rubber version as well, though they are a bit more expensive (~$12 each). Chrome/rubber climate knobs unfortunately not available separately. 65129231059 |

I don't have one of those fancy pry bars so I'm just curious, do you really need to take the two foot wide panel and the entire cup holder out just to pry off the old face? I guess you would have said so but can you not leave the assembly in just pop them off with a screw driver?

I just did this on both our 3ers (thanks to you) and it's a great improvement. You don't need tools to do it, just pry the cover off gently from the bottom and it pops right off. Beyond easy.

Yeah. I did mine today with a gentle twist of a screwdriver - which did dent the neighboring plastic behind the face a tiny bit, but it's really not noticeable. Thanks for the thread.

Just to make mention that it is best to look up the three colors based upon your model of E9x. My E93 interior is "creambeige" not "beige" thus my part numbers were:
51459229095 51459229099 Easy to do the swap, it took longer to take the pics:

BMW of Dallas charges $12 a piece on this (Black.) Went ahead and let them rip me off since i was already there, didn't feel like searching around for the parts.
