Still interested in trying the 3's though.
I have the A/S plus on the wife's GT, 17k miles and they still show 8/32s. No cupping yet.

Depends on certain factors. My sister has a square set and no cupping on her set. On my staggered setup with 275/30/19, my rears cupped but the front were perfect!

Also, any updates on the AS3? did you have the tire dealer check it out? My bro-in-law thinks maybe it's a 'out of round' thing with my tire. I'm going to throw on my PSS wheels and see if the noise is still there.

Staggered here on the GT.

I have not had time to drive the car since wife drove it home from dealership. Oh the fun of working 2 jobs and 60-80 hours a week. Hopefully I'll have time to take it for a ride tomorrow.

I had my AS 3s put on this past weekend... 225 / 255 18". Initial impression is there's an obvious difference between going from RF to NRF, holy sh*t. I've had the 330 for a little over a year now and the RF is all I knew. The ride quality is so much better... this how BMWs should feel! I personally think the road noise has diminished going from the RF to the AS3 as well. The comfort is worth the price alone!

Any updates on road noise? I am due to replace the factory tires, and I'm debating between the A/S 3 or PSS. I do not need the AS3, but, the longer tire life would be nice.

I've drove mine over the last 2 days. IME if your roads are smooth, the A/S 3's are fine. If you have interstate that are heavily traveled by the big rigs, then the tires are noisy. I-285 on the south side of Atlanta, they sound excessively loud IMO. My 30 day exchange runs out next Friday. I'd like to give another set of A/S 3's a try prior to going to the PSS. See what discount tire or Michelin says.

So far my AS3s are definitely quieter than the RF I replaced, so I'm happy. I think it's subjective...

Let us know for sure! I love the performance so I guess I will live with the noise. I won't be able to run my PSS in a month as the temps will drop too low for summer tires up here!

Also having an issue with the A/S 3's and noise on my 5 series. May swap them for another set of A/S 3 or a totally different tire - not sure yet.

The noise from the tires comes in at 30-60 mph, and sounds like a humming/whining noise with a tinge of metallic-ness to it... if that makes any sense.

My car has less than 1000 miles on it, brand new - so its not the wheels/bearings/suspension/ect...

I called the local Discount Tire that did the install on mine. They ordered me 4 PSS and might have them in by the end of the week. I just have to pay the difference in the price of the tires. I'll let you guys know if any difference in noise by next week hopefully.

Yeah - I am torn. Go with Conti DWS or another set of these A/S 3's. I just fear the same with the A/S 3's and then its a major waste of time. Yes the DWS sidewalls are soft, but my 550xi is a big massive beast anyway.

did you end up trying a new batch of Michelin A/S 3 due to the excessive tire noise? I'm trying to decide if I should stick with another set of Continental DWS or try out these new Michelin A/S 3. I ran the DWS all season long for about 25,700 miles now but I need to replace them very soon. Tire rack did not mention anything about the A/S 3 noise but reported it on the comparison chart http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=177.

Did not try a new set. Wasn't worth the headache just in case.

The Michelin feel like the perform better and are a bit more sporty but it so marginal on the streets especially in a 4500 lb. tank.

If you want to drive aggressive on the streets you need proper summer tires and a smaller lighter car in my opinion.

Just had these put on my 328ix yesterday. Major difference than the OEM Bridgestone RFTs that were on it and were all I knew. Need to do some highway driving with them, but so far we are liking them in my house.

I too had a set of AS3 installed on Friday. So far, they seem great. A little noisy around 60, but I suspect that will go away after they get some miles on them. Much more comfortable with better steering feel than the Michelin Run Flats that came on the car.

Mine were installed with some brand new road-force balancing machine that allowed the installer to place the weights where they want to. Maybe that's why they are quiet?

How is the grip ? Did you do any launches with them ? I assume you had Michelin PS2 ZP before ? How is the grip compared to those ?

Thanks !

Grip is excellent. Yes, this is coming from PS2 ZP's. Everything about the tire blows away the PS2 ZP's. I keep trying to compare them to a set of the new PSS's I had on my last car (G37S Sedan), the AS3's are a little louder, but I think the dry grip is comparable and the wet grip is significantly better. Granted, different cars... but still!

After living w the A/S 3s for a month and 700 miles, I now have PSS on my 335is. After 3 days and 200 miles, the PSS is quieter and has better response in the turns. No rain yet so I can't comment. I also highly prefer the sidewall looks of the PSS.

Very interesting comparison. But how about grip in a straight line ? Any significant differences ? And did you switch the A/S 3 to the PSS or are the A/S 3 installed on another car ? If so, what was the main reason for switching ?

No straight line launches yet.

Read back in this thread. A/S 3 on this car for 700 miles, too much road noise on rough roads for me.
