How many miles did your E9x have when you put it out to pasture?

I am just curious, as I currently have a mk5 GTI but would love to upgrade to a E90/E92 one day. The F30 and G20 gets no love for me, as they lack steering feel and/or a manual transmission.

I am surprised there are still examples of the E9x with under 100k miles, and from what I hear, just the gaskets and cooling systems seem to be the Achilles heel for these cars.

How long can I expect to keep a E9x if I maintain it meticulously?

07 e90 328 sold at 93k miles

11 e92 335 currently at 95k miles. Looking to get a very low mileage 2019 m240 next summer, add another 2 to the stable. So will probably sell E92 around 105k miles.

It's one of the worst cars I've ever owned.

But it's pretty and comfortable so... *shrug*

I stopped dailying mine recently at 137k, was having a lot of sensor failures and just wanted something more practical and comfortable for a daily since my commute got longer.

F30 does come with manual. I was actually looking at ordering a F30 M-Sport 320i with manual transmission before they went out of production. Was going to make it a 320si homage with the wheels, tune etc. N20 motor actually is pretty neat, F30s are nice enough too. Just not a E9x.

Efthreeoh is coming close to 400,000 miles on his pre-LCI E90 if I'm not mistaken. Thing is cleaner than mine with 14x,xxx miles.

I bought my 2006 325i brand new in September 2005.

It now has 228,000+ miles on it and looks almost new, and runs perfectly.

Work performed (failures):
- Valve cover gasket
- Oil filter gasket
- Water pump
- Alternator
- Starter
- Climate control blower motor
- Regular maintenance (brakes, oil changes)

These are all known issues. I have not had a single problem that is not already well known for an E90.

Keys to success:

- Garaged since day 1, never parked outside overnight
- Never put it through a car wash with brushes. Brushless only. Hand wash preferred.
- Regular waxing
- Regular maintenance performed
- Southern California (no ice, snow, or salt)
- Dr. Colorchip used frequently to deal with chips/road rash

I'm planning to keep it a while longer, so I plan on replacing the headlamps and fog lights since the clear plastic has become pitted, and I'll upgrade to LED.

It's now my secondary vehicle since I just purchased an F06 (640i).

In all, the car has been incredibly good.

I won't usually even come into the picture until people put their vehicles out to pasture.

Just bought my newest BMW ever, a 2006 325i w/172K miles from the second owner who had it since 2008/42K miles. It's been just sitting most of the last couple of years, so it has it's quirks since I'm sure we all know these things need to be driven, not sitting.

151k here. There's no incentive to replace it, unless you like having a $500/mo car payment for your entire life. I'd rather retire early and travel..

OP, an E9X with an N52 and manual transmission will easily make 250,000 miles, and then ask you "are you bored yet?" The automatics make 250K easily as well. The car does not have an Achille's Heal; VCG, OFHG, and OPG are easy DIY. Well, the OPG is a little tough on jackstands, but Indy's charge $700 to $900 to do one.

If you find an N52 E9X near 100,000 miles check for the obvious and if you like the shape it is in and the price is reasonable, buy it and drive it for another 200,000.

Just replace the WP, starter, cooling system, suspension, and bushings every 50,000 miles

That's a bit pigeon holed, don't you think? I got rid of mine at a little over 60K and replaced with a 440i. I don't have any car payments or even a house payment if you really want to get specific.

Perhaps a better analogy would be to state that one should simply buy a vehicle that fits their budgetary needs. Some folks can easily swing a $100,000 car purchase every year (not me) and not have it impact them financially. Others should probably never be driving a car they spent more than $5,000 on. It's income dependent.

But yes, having a car payment is certainly a hindrance to obtaining wealth. No argument there.

Up until I can find a more interesting winter beater. Until then... my 330i is solid and dependable.

Fair enough, but I'd be willing to bet the vast, vast majority of people here finance their cars. People are still making payments on third-hand 2007 335's...

I know you're being facetious, I think. Actually, I need new shocks (they've been leaking since winter), but other than the water pump - I haven't touched any of that stuff. And I know damn well you don't replace those parts every 50k.
