Mine appeared only for the duration of a particularly rainy week in the spring, and has not recurred since.

If it did, though, I would just live with it. I wasn't even aware I had that feature until the warning popped up. Doesn't really seem integral, does it?

Worst case, you can deactivate it via coding.

Delete 524 from VO, FA_Write to CAS and NFRM and Sg_Codiern CAS and FRM, then go to NFRM and change smc_errorcheck to Nicht_aktiv.

Done.

Yea I took my cap off the back of the headlight housing the other day by accident and when i went to put it back on it looks like the white seal around the piece got warped over time so i had to order another cap from bmw for like $30. If you've taken the caps off of your headlights, i've read that they don't properly seal back up again when you put them back on. If you're planning on preventing future moisture from getting in, i'd look into replacing the housing cap as well.

Just waiting for the part to come in, going to swap the cap, and hope that the remaining moisture condensation in my headlight gets vented out naturally over the next few days (its not a lot, but it needs to go).

These are the ones for pre-lci xenons w/ adaptive feature.
Part#63117159568 - Left headlight
Part#63117159569 - Right headlight

I must chime in here, Some people buy these cars and can't really afford to fix them properly when something goes wrong, they can be expensive on times to repair when certain things break or wear out and this is one of those things. I had the same problem with my car after washing and had it fixed at the dealer, I think the cost was about $1100. The control module for the adaptive headlights is the culprit and it controls the entire movement of the projectors, up and down plus left and right when you turn your steering wheel (for cars with adaptive headlights). The warning will not go away over time as someone previously stated above, plus your headlights aim will be all over the place because they can't properly aim themselves. I did my research on this and was going to do it myself until I came to the conclusion that the new module needed to be coded in by the dealer or it wouldn't work, that combined with having to remove the front bumper cover and the part having a 3 year warranty if installed by the dealer made me decide to have them do it.

Did you do anything to your headlight prior to washing? I'm more interested in the reason the water got in (was it the lid seal for replacing bulbs, was it a cracked lense etc.) Or did the dealer just blindly replace the entire headlight assembly.

The module that fails and causes the error is located under the headlight assembly so it has nothing to do with replacing the headlight. Water or condensation inside the headlight causes a short which in turn ruins the module. I'm not sure if the seal was the cause of mine failing but it could have been because I did open them up at one time to install new Mtec AE's. Condensation can form regardless if the headlight has ever been opened though, just a shitty design.

Before you go and replace the SMC without fixing the sealing of the headlight see if you can get new covers. If you still get condensation you will need a new headlight.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I just got the error. It's raining bad here and i know one of my caps arnt sealed as I had to zip tie it. Tabs broke. I'm ordering new caps. Do I need 2 control modules? Or is there only one? When I turn car on neither headlight move. Are they both controlled by one module? Of if one module goes bad they both won't work? Thanks

It's seperate SMC units for each headlight.

I got this error too but I haven't replaced the unit , ordered a new cap but still haven't installed it

I have this same issue actually, i got water in my module, not at start up the headlights check but then after the right one points down and i have the adaptive headlight module error on dash. I am going to get it coded from someone to disable it in GTA im going to see if after disabling it they level properly, if anyone else knows any insight on this it would be great

If eyes are stuck in a position coding them out won't do anything. At least not in my situation. Did you replace the module? If not you need to. If it's wet it's done. Even if it seems to work. It's not. I have one laying around. Never got around to testing it but it should work. It's for pre Lci only though. After you replace module code it and make sure you code it to your cars year. I made the mistake of coding my 07 to an 11 because I had the Cic installed. After I recoded using 07 year it worked. Pre pic and loci are completely different modules

I know old thread but I always feared you had to replace the whole headlight but it seems to just be the headlight control module for swivelling that is 200$ how the hell do people end up paying 1000$.
