Probably cost you less to ship it there than to deal with all the costs while there in CA. But what do I know. But if you did all the radical stuff in FL, how would your D pass the emissions test in CA?

Contact Pat and JR with absolute confidence!
So does te 800 include DPF removal from the programming?
Is EGR also closed off?
Will rsw also be offering DPF removal (plumbing-wise)?
Is there a discount for the first person to purchas & dyno?
Is it possible to remove SCR as well?

Thanks!

Ronin, with a test car for fitment, they could probably fab & ship a pipe. Thereafter, you would just have to ship ECU.

California emissions for diesels = visual + ODB scan. That's it.

This is good progress.

How is Ecotune and your US based contract tuner getting around the legality issue? I am sure you and your US based tuner are aware that Edge (a popular US based diesel truck tuner) was recently fined $500k by the EPA, plus $157k is restitution and required to "buy-back" each of the dpf delete tunes they sold?

Chris i believe that a DISCLAIMER stating that the car will not be used as a daily driver can be ensued to releive JR from being sued by the GESTAPO NAZI Epa

Perhaps, fortunately I am not a lawyer.

However given the magnitude of the fines and thus the potential exposure to Ecotune and more readily their local US based contract tuner it is probably advisable they consult with one to ensure how they go about marketing/selling their product will not subject them to the wrath of the EPA.

My guess would be word of mouth, rather than marketing OR advertising.

Ron1n that would be a great gamble and risk for them, but it can be done but if anything I would have the client sign a DISCLAIMER to cover my ass!!, EPA can not then pursue them cause the client milsead them. . Some guys down here will tint your car BLACk but they will make the owner sign a disclaimer that they were warned that if a ticket is ensued they cannot come after them.

Interesting statement from Edge and Superchips Racing...

Edge & Superchips Racing Letter

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edge Products and Superchips have been, and continue to be, proud supporters of competitive diesel motorsports across the United States and Canada. We proudly support and sponsor organizations such as NHRDA and NADM that promote legal racing and diesel competition in cities and towns all across North America. Despite our continued support of diesel motorsports, we have made the strategic decision to discontinue our Edge Racing and Superchips Racing products effective immediately. We will not accept new orders for Edge and Superchips Racing products as of July 12, 2011.

Edge Products and Superchips will no longer offer for sale Edge Racing and Superchips Racing-branded diesel, tuning products in the United States. Unfortunately, we believe a portion of dealers and consumers are exploiting the intended use of these products which has a negative impact on the future of this industry.

Prior to launching the Edge Racing and Superchips Racing brands, we undertook numerous preventive measures to ensure all dealers and consumers clearly understood the intended use of these products. In spite of our best efforts, we have concluded that these policies are not adequate to assure abuse is prevented. We have performed an exhaustive review of these measures, including numerous conversations with regulatory agencies such as EPA and CARB, in order to try to devise an effective way whereby we can assure ‘Racing’ products are used as intended. Based on our review, at this time, we do not believe there are adequate prevention measures available to the industry which provide those assurances.

We strongly encourage, for the long-term health of our industry, that all distributors, dealers and consumers of these or similar products made by other companies cease selling any electronic tuning product that contains the ability to disable any emissions system for late-model diesel trucks including (but not limited to) the DPF system, EGR system and Urea (exhaust fluid) injection. Per federal and state regulations, any registered vehicle is required to maintain its emissions systems unless it is used strictly and solely for racing. Unfortunately, even with the exhaustive, preventive measures we have taken, we do not feel it is possible to completely prevent abuse.

We have strong reason to believe all companies that continue to engage in the business of manufacturing, distributing, or selling these kinds of products in the United States will be subject to enforcement action from both the United States EPA and the California Air Resources Board. In the future, if we are able to devise a way to prevent abuse, we hope to re-establish the Edge Racing and Superchips Racing brands.

Below is a list/table that constitutes all Edge and Superchips Racing part numbers that will be immediately discontinued. The table below also identifies the appropriate street-legal replacement part number for the same application. All listed replacement parts can be found on the CARB Products in Progress list and either have been or will be tested for legal street use in the United States. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our contact information is included below for your convenience.

Then tell your boy to call me already! What happened?

I may have a shop locally that is known for their custom fab (they are pricey. though) from which we may be able to recruit support.

Just spent about half an hour on the phone with Lenny. For my situation, he thinks they can do what I'm asking, but without a local car to test what they've got, there's some concern about viability. I'm trying to figure out exactly what has to be done at the dealership in order for the car to run with minimal concern for damage. I'm considering having all the sensors replaced and leaving the DPF as is (they've stated that the DPF is currently clogged...still trying to figure that out, considering it happened in less than 18 hours after picking up my car) until I can get the DPF cored out or have a down pipe fabbed, or picking one up from a company like Ecotune and then just having the coding done here.

Ronin, do you want me to check with my shop to see if they can fabricate a pipe based on my car then ship to you?

It can't hurt. I just called Redline and talked to Mark, and he's going to get in touch with Ecotune and see if they can figure out why my car is melting parts, get pricing for the DPF delete, and all that good stuff. Said he'd get back to me in the next day or so.

Maybe a dumb question, but here it goes....

How would this affect your car if you already have an Evolve or RENNtech tune? Would you have to get them to reflash? What if you plan on getting a tune in the future? I'm lost. Haha

They'd have to reflash, yes. There are specific parameters that need to be added in order to bypass/let the ECU know that the DPF is no longer there, as well as the sensors that are dependent on information generated by the DPF.

So for the $800 that we would pay for this, is the tuning included? Or would it be a separate charge through someone else? And would the tuning here only modify the downpipe/DPF info?

I am trying to figure out if I can just order the downpipe and install and then have Evolve or RENNtech flash the ECU with this info so that I get performance and DPF bypass.
