What to expect at Delivery

My car is on it's way over, scheduled to be in port in a little more than a week and I am wondering what I can expect when it gets to the dealer and I go to pick it up. I imagine that they will try to sell me a few more things and I'm wondering what the collective wisdom is about things I should watch out for, options I should consider, ones I should avoid, etc. It seems that many people are in favor of getting some type of tire insurance If I'm sticking with the run-flats, the roads in my neighborhood are not very good, but for that I will probably go with the 5 year policy from twinkidneygrill.com which is at $580 right now.

Thankfully, I'm not dealing with a trade-in, so that won't add anything to the drama, but if you have something to say about that which might make the thread more useful....

Any experiences that you care to share about those high-pressure moments when you're finally getting the car would be welcome. Thanks!

yeh they will try and offer you extended warranty and the tire/wheel insurance. tire and wheel insurance is kinda overrated..i mean for $580 you can probably just buy another wheel/tire. i've seen entire sets of 189's and 162's with tires sell for $1k. i opted out of EVERYTHING they offered me, my mission was just to go to the dealer and pick up my car without buying anything else. GEICO has the extended warranty thing as well, i think i pay $17 every 6 months for that and they pay for any repairs on your car after your bmw warranty is out in 4 years.

Yea, look out for the wheel/tire insurance. I got mine with my Audi, and never had to use it! (although it was only about $7 extra per month) Still make sure you review the entire policy. Turns out it does not cover alot, for example, any wheel damage from non natural conditions!!!

In other words, it seems like there needs to be a "perfect storm" for anything with your wheel or tire to be covered. Beware.

o There might be some freebies your CA can give, such as touch-up paint, mats, etc. Some dealers provide free wheel locks.
o Depending on the dealership, it may not be a good idea for them to prep the car, it may end up with a lot of swirl marks.
o Double-check the price, check if it's the same as what was negotiated.
o Check that nothing that should come standard is left out, such as manuals, tools, flashlight.
o Check the lug nuts are tight, there were posts where people found otherwise.
o Someone should be giving a brief run-through of the various functionalities in the car. If you have a bluetooth phone for instance, you might try the connection at that time.

Wheel and Tyre insurance is pushed pretty hard here in Michigan due to the crappy roads.

Also, depending on the dealership they might try and sell you on a rewards program(ie: anything you buy gets points towards more stuff or a new car...), or an enhanced program.

Tell them NO on the wheel and tire insurance. I've never had it on any of my cars and don't see a reason to.

Any CA that gives you a brief run-through, shouldn't get paid his commission.

My tire and wheel was $390, total waste of money. It's been 15 mos. now and I've seen 0 benefit from it. People always seem to crawl out of the woodwork and say they've used it 5 times and it's the best thing since sliced bread, but I wonder if they are just puffing.

Mine took over an hour, I felt like telling her it's enough. It's as if she had a crush on me or something. Should be a happy medium, not too long and not too short.

I'm going to print off the car manual from the PDF and read it during extended stays on the toilet when I'm giving birth to something less than life like.
