How about Brakes?

I hear a lot of various mods on this forum about making our cars faster, easier to handle, and better looking but what about improved brakes and rotors?

Anyone running different aftermarket or OE performance set-ups?

List any brake pad, rotor, kit upgrades that you own or are considering to get.

Regarding brake work, the speed shop in Philly who is working on my suspension suggested they also put in stainless steel brake lines and better fluid in the process, so I said go ahead since that was on my future to do list anyway. I suppose the next logical step would be to get better pads, and then possibly better calipers and rotors, but frankly I haven't felt the need yet. I won't be spending all that much time on the track, or hauling through the mountains.

I will take some pictures of it all tomorrow, including the brake lines.

I've seen these rotors on HPA site I believe. Are the front and rear combined around $2000? How do you like them?

They are noisy a bit but man!!!! They are worth it!
They are suppose to last at least 200 000 miles!
I didn't track the car yet but even after 7-8 hard braking from high speed , no fading at all.

^ I would suggest a different brake pad if you are planning on tracking your car. ET500's are street pads.

I bought them for street

I may learn tracking this summer and will buy appropriate pads at the time.

My i-drive tells me that my rear brakes will need to be changed in 18,000KM, what's everyones experience with the accuracy of this estimate?

Should I start planning this out soon? Also do I need to swap out rotors and pads at the same time? or Will I just do pads?

If I am doing the pads only what's a good upgrade to use with my OEM set-up? I don't plan on going to the track on a regular basis might try it once this season.

You still have plenty of time left.
Mine were indicating 1000km since like 5000km and were still in good shape ( sort of ! Lol ) get the stop tech pads from turner Motorsport website!

That is mostly set-up to create panic and make money for BMW. My car is only at 30,000 km and that "warning" came up. I took my tires off at my buddy's shop when I had the car on the lift for some other work, checked the rear pads and saw that I have 50% left on them. I just reset the light.

I'm sure your rotors are most likely fine so just worry about the pads when they actually need to be changed. In terms of upgrades there are very good street performance pads out there with some of them already listed in this topic.

to replace the rotors first would be absurd imho..........first swap out pads...ss lines dont make much difference...proper cooling is key on track...a good brake duct kit will out perform and caliper/rotor swap...rotors and calipers for show purposes only is another matter but I can understand that ...cause Brembo's do look sweet.

Now if you dont track, there is zero need to upgrade the brakes...the stopping power is very good on these cars, its the brake fade with repeated use that is the problem...this should only be an issue on the track...jmho of course...
