2006 E90 12V when key in

Hi,

I'm trying to find a 12v source for my bluetooth adapter that turns on when I insert the key. The cig lighter only turns on when ignition is on, but I need it to turn on just when the stereo is on or when the key is in. I have tested most of the fuses on the fuse box but most of them are always on.

Is there any 12v source which is only on when the key is in?

Thanks

How about the power line to the Radio.
or at the radio fuse.

The sleep mode makes everything complicated.

If you have comfort access being in the car is the equivalent of
putting the key in the slot.

Thanks, I'll have a look at these. I was thinking of using the trigger wire for the amp which I also use for my amp but that has the sleep mode.

It's just a USB device so I'll just mod a cig lighter to USB adapter to work with whatever power source there is.

Don't you want it to go to sleep and not drain your battery
when you are not using the car.
The 12 volt line to the OBD is not gated by sleep mode.
Those aftermarket head unit threads have found a constant odd
fuse somewhere for the head unit memory.

I do want it to turn off, but with sleep mode it stays on for a couple minutes even after taking the key out. I just want it to turn off when the iDrive is turned off.

I will look at the OBD port, sounds what I am looking for.

A few years ago a post here helped me find such a wire. It was purple and in the driver footwell area (LHD).

There's a chance I have a link in my build thread, but otherwise no link handy.

Good luck.

Just my two cents... but the drain that usb device will put on the electrics while the car is running or off for 20 minutes before going to sleep isn't really anything substantial. Is it really worth butchering wires when a simple add a fuse can suffice?

Use the cig lighter fuse and call it a day?

Our cars are sensitive beasts.. unnecessarily tampering with wires is just asking for trouble
