Clutch slipping
My car is making + 130 ftlb torque and I think clutch has started to slip. WOT in 4th and somewhere between 3500RPM and 5000RPM the engine revs faster than the car moves.
Is 21207603248 the right part number for 550i clutch? Realoem shows F10 550i and E92 335is has this clutch but cant find what E60 550i has. Will it fit the stock flywheel? Any modifications? People used this back then but is the 550i/335is clutch still a good choice for up to around 500ftlb? Any alternatives on the UK market? Read someone using it for 570ftlb and it didnt slip. I dont intend to go much over the power/torque I have now. Last edited by suspect; 03-01-2024 at 12:11 PM.. |

You should be fine as long as you’re not doing burnouts or any other forms of abuse. I’ve been running this clutch for the last 7500 miles at ~470-490wtq (temp dependant) and no slippage as of yet.
The Luk Repset package here is what you need and for good measure, I got a new OEM flywheel (as well as a bunch of other associated bits for a refresh) at time of replacement as well: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...lutch+kit,1993 Might be also a good time to get the shifter/carrier bushings done - one regret I have that I didn’t do as a “while you’re in there” type job. |

Shoooter_j Thank you for the list! In your opinion is it stupid to NOT replace the flywheel when replacing the clutch?... I'd like to save $700.

I’ve read that folks have reused their orig flywheel depending on condition without issue, but I didn’t want to take the chance esp since my 3rd gear orig clutch slippage was bad. Its really up to your risk tolerance and if you need to pay to do the labor again vs DIY (and just the cost of your time for the latter).
