Can't wait for your review socks, I need to do the clutch in my car and was thinking about the 550i clutch and a new DMF, was worried about rattles and shudder if I went for an aftermarket job, make sure you give us a review

looks like you went with a standard Weight flywheel, did you consider lightened? probably better not to go lightened for a daily driver, I suspect that would suck in heavy traffic

Not much Socks, just running MHD Stage 2+ Tune or sometimes the e40 tune when I can get to an E85 pump, but need a clutch, mine slips in 4th and 5th and if I'm replacing it might as well have some room for growth, just in case

Regular readers will know about 18 months ago, I upgraded the audio system (mod 73, page 100) with a set of critical mass two ways up front, an alpine 10" sub in the boot and a set of Focal IFBMWs in the rear and under the seats

Next week Chris at Tower audio is going to do a tune to improve the muddy sound stage. While it will help, I also want to upgrade the rear speakers and the sub woofer and up the dB across the board

Have started collecting bits for the audio upgrade part II, with these arriving today Focal Utopia Be No7 kit and a Focal 33KX 13" sub woofer

Should sound nice

Pics below

1 & 2 - Unboxing of the Utopia Be kit
3 & 4 - 6 3/4 inch woofers
5 & 6 - 3 inch mids
7 - beryllium tweeters
8 & 9 - 13" sub woofer

Socket your life is ruined after this in terms of sound quality as no stock sound system will do your ears justice in the future haha. Must be mind blowingly good to listen to when it's done. I can't wait to check out the clarity.. Congratulations in advance.

Holy shit! Focal Utopia are the ducks nuts man.
This will sound incredible.... as long as they can tune it correctly.
I had a full focal setup in my car years ago (when i was into massive stereo setups) and it was amazing.
The clarity and range they have is second to none.

Cheers E there isn't lots written up about this kit but they are suppose to sound nice... Not sure how they will stack up against the critical mass which are pretty impressive for a 4" and tweeter 2-way

Hope so R, I like my music and the stock sound system in the E92 just sux tbh.... Taking a bit of a risk with the Utopia because will have to run these in active mode because I didn't buy the crossovers to go with the speakers. The main reason is the crossover block is a eye watering WTF $2000.. which just a stupid amount.... the other problem is trying to find a 13" subwoofer grille for the sub to stop it from getting damaged by crap rolling around in the boot

Focal made a cover for the sub (Part No GR330) but its impossible to find.
Plenty of generic 12" and 15" grilles on ebay but Ill be stuffed if I can find a 13"

Did I mention I hate modding

If Socket ever parted out, the financial ripples would be felt all over the world. Markets will crash, people will lose their livelihoods, Governments would crumble and their will be rioting in the streets.

Picked spcgry up from audio shop on the weekend.... the system finally sounds like it should ...

Two day tune cost under $400 which was pretty cheap, given the hours Chris spent on it

If you have aftermarket speakers but have not had your system professionally tuned, I can thoroughly recommend getting it done..

The critical mass speakers in the fronts, have turned out to be the biggest surprise.

I was always a bit worried about them living up to their rep because, the brand is virtually unknown and the critical mass web site is super shady with lots of fake endorsements. Honestly did not expect them to perform as well as they did, super bright and crystal clear even at max volume ..... will be a shame to relegate them to the back seats

So stage 1 of the audio upgrade complete. Will need to collect a few more bits (speaker pods, amps etc) before we can complete the build

The plan for the next stage is to step the quality of the components up a notch, and complete the audio build the way it should have been done in the first place..

Rear set up
The critical mass 4" and tweeters up front will be moved to the rear compartment to replace the IFBMW focals
Will connect them to a new dedicated amp and run the rear set up in passive mode

Front set up

Will install the Focal utopia speakers up front, hooked up the a new dedicated amp to run the front set up in active mode
The IFBMW 8" underseat subs will be removed and replaced with the focal utopia 6" in the doors to handle the mid bass
The focal utopia 3" and tweeters will be mounted to the A pillars in custom speaker pods from Germany

Sub woofer
Replace the 10" alpine sub with the Focal 13" sub after making some mods to the visual ice box in the boot
Will probably need a bigger mono block amp to run the new focal otherwise will stick with the alpine pdx 1.6 amp

Processor and amps
Currently have a audison bit 8.9, 8 channel processor, but not sure it if can handle the 3 way active front and rear passive set up
If not will need to fall back to the older audison bit 10, which can handle the configuration
Will also need to add a couple of new amps to keep everything juiced up

Once all installed, will need to give everything a time correction and tune

Can't wait
