moparmar - I would change nothing until you have had the codes read - otherwise you could well be heading down the route of wasting a lot of time and a lot of money. There are numerous potential causes of ABS/DSC errors ranging from low battery charge, dirty abs sensors, faulty steering angle sensor to the common (but expensive) failure of the abs unit. Choosing to replace the lowest cost potential point of failure without having the codes read is pointless.

Hi Guys
I have an update on my ABS and flashing DSC problem: I went ahead and bought a Creator c110 scanner from Amazon ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creator-C110.../dp/B00ALPWO8U ) this thing was well worth it as it tells you everything you need to know in terms of fault reading. This thing is AMAZING!!! It came up with fault: 5DB1 Wheel-speed sensor: plausibility, rear left. So I'm glad its just the sensor in the end. A friend of mine got the part for me and fitted it 30mins, we plugged in the scanner and trouble code cleared by its self. We test drove it for a couple of miles and all seems good, I will let you know how I get in with the next couple of hundred miles, fingers crossed! My total cost for this repair is as follows: ONE OFF COST FOR C110 SCANNER: £43.50 ATE ABS Sensor (Part No.: 417110520): £74.16 (I paid £36.95 with my friends trade discount) LABOUR: £0.00 Total without the scanner £36.95 !!!!!! Very happy indeed!!! Here's the interesting part... So back in Dec my indy based in Camden London, charged me a whopping £270.72 for parts and labour for the EXACT same repair, this was broken down as follows: ATE ABS Sensor (Part No.: 417110520): £135.60 LABOUR: £90 VAT: £45.12 As you can imagine, I feel completely and utterly ripped off, and I also feel incredibly stupid!!! I shall be giving the garage a call in the week to let them know what I think. Also they installed a FAULTY part!!! the DSC was flashing after just 2-3 miles of leaving the garage (I stupidly put this down to "bedding in"), after I replaced the same part on the same side, so far, after approx. 4 miles of testing, no flashing DSC. Basically I'm writing this post to A. give you guys an update as I said I would and B. to let everyone know, that if you have the same problems as I have had (flashing DSC and ABS waring lights), buy the C110 scanner buy the part from euro cars parts, get yourself a Haynes manual and do it yourself, its a 30min one man job! Thanks to all for your input, these forums are invaluable! Hopefully onto some modding now... Cheers Mo |

I don't believe that the fault codes you have quoted are BMW fault codes.
The most common fault codes for a failed ABS/DSC Unit are 5DF0 and 5DF1 https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=bm...F-8#q=bmw+5df0

Had all these problems and now the car won't start, tries to and then the active steering defective light comes on. Is it refusing to start as a safety feature?
Garage coming to pick it up tomorrow, £70 then £70 to plug in.. £140 before it's been touched. Starting to hate beemers |

Definitely...
...get the codes read. With any luck, it may just be a wheel speed sensor. Also look up the procedure for resetting the steering angle sensor.
But definitely get the codes read. I just had the Pump/ECM for my 328i rebuilt by Module Masters ($285) in Moscow, ID. I had the same warning lights and was getting a code thrown for the Pump, but not the ECM. Online research led me to (correctly) believe that my problem was with the crappy brushes on the ABS pump motor. Got my rebuilt assembly in the mail when we returned from vacation, put it back in, bled the lines, and drove 30' down the driveway and all lights cleared. Beats the hell out of a $3000 job at the dealer that will result in the same issue later on - and MM gives a 5 year warranty. Good luck with yours, Nathan |

I had 5DB2 earlier this week. Jacked the car up, took off the wheel, then cleaned off the sensor and surrounding area. Now everything is working and all codes are gone. Thanks to whoever suggested just cleaning it.
