2nd Gear Clicking Manual

Hello, I've posted about this before but I have a 2006 BMW 325i 6 speed MT. And I have a small issue. And everyone suggested to change the fluid and I did. And it definitely helped the issue but it's still there. Basically whenever I go into 2nd gear and I don't shift perfectly there's a click that I can feel right under the shifter, maybe lower, but it definitely doesn't feel like it's in the transmission. This clicking happens when I let my foot off the gas, immediate click after I let off the clutch completely (unless I shift close to perfect). It doesn't happen when I accelerate, it stays in great at all times, and i don't get any click when shifting into it when I shift above 3.5 rpms. The clicking feels almost like a clunk, but less scary. and can only be felt when your hand is on the shifter. Any ideas? Does anyone think this could be a synchro?

It's hard to do a rando interweb diagnosis from some text on a forum, but if it's going into gear fine without grinding it's probably not the synchro. If it's all good when you do the perfect speed matched shift it's likely just the DMF winding up a bit with the speed mismatch, that would show up most 1-2 at lower speeds. Andhoo, it's a place to search and see if it sounds like what you have. It seems to be a common issue and not one that necessarily indicates a problem.

Okay thanks. I know how hard it is diagnose something like that on a forum, but I couldn't find much about it elsewhere. Thanks

Had a similar noise, turned out to be fixed with trans mounts & a csb.

How hard was the CSB to do? And I was thinking trans mounts as well

Was just going to say to check the trans mounts since mine was doing the same and trans mounts were leaking, but what is csb? I’d probably want to check mine as well.
P.S. nevermind, csb probably stands for center support bearing for the driveshaft

I'm not a trans expert, just thinking aloud about how you describe it as "pushing back" on the shifter. The mount bushings will clunk, but they don't contribute any rotational force, the DMF is a spring loaded buffer against drive train rotation, it's parts are capable of both clunking and pushing back against the drivetrain. On the M forums ppl laugh haha what clunk.

Interesting if this was what it was then it doesn't seem like too bad of an issue.

I also thought it was the trans mounts but the mechanic said they were fine. Said the Control arm bushings were dry cracked as well as the flex disc. Although not too bad.

Do you think bad control arm bushings could do something like this?

That could give you wheel shake or tramlining but don't think it could do anything that would transfer into your shifter.
