does it say 'European formula' ? and the back of bottom list BMW-LL01 ?

If not, then it's not for BMW.

The oil at BMW is not the same as the 5w30 Castrol at Canadian Tire.

Hm, do they still sell it at this price? Last time I went (January/ Feb), the two parts guys told me that price is no longer valid and the new price was $8.41 :/

Did you ask for the maxbimmer/e90post member discount for both places? Last time I talked to Steven from DT Toronto, he said they now adopt the same maxbimmer discount which is about ~20% in savings. So it should be cheaper than what you were quoted.

Im using Motul 8100 xcess 5w40 and it says BMW LL01. I have a N52 and it got rid of my lifter ticking noise after switching to it and you can feel night and day difference with Motul

I hate to say it but I think you bought the wrong oil... The only way to know is to post a front and back pic.

The only recommended castrol oil is the one made in Germany (Says it on the back).

It looks like this and is only sold in 1 Qts NOT 4.4 or 5L jugs. (at least last time I was at Canadian Tire it looked like this)

Msg me in private if you need any more help... that's what I'm here for Worse case scenario is your bring the wrong stuff back.

That's the problem... not too many oils are LL-01 approved... I think Mobile 1 makes a LL-01 0W-40 that's approved but again... I'd stick to what works... OEM or the Castrol above (people say BMW OEM oil is actually the German Castrol above).

I think we have all looked at the cap and said "Awesome! Castrol is on sale!" until we checked into it

EDIT: I remember my buddy did his oil change with non approved oil when he first got his car. He changed it to OEM 5000kms in and he didn't have any sludge

The price at Maranello BMW has gone up to $7 (if you mention the MaxBimmer discount). I bought 7 bottles last weekend.

Filters are $12 with the discount too.

Thanks for the update!

In all, you are probably looking at about $30 (total net cost) savings when doing it at your indep shop/garage vs at the dealer.
