Noob question on brakes
Wondering if someone can help me out....
My 2011 335is which I owned for almost 3 years is showing in idrive that rear brakes due in 2k. Does that indicate brake service or brake pad replacement? I don't hear any squeals or squeeks... And the bite is strong so I think... Any input would be appreciated... |

Probably not a massive rush, but you have a few weeks at best...letting it go will just be more expensive...

So I guess this pads and rotor replacement? And not brake service cleaning?
Any idea if labor is covered or is it all put of pocket during full warranty service? |

Pads and rotors consider as wear and tear item so warranty is not covered unless you have the Service Inclusive warranty.
Here will give you an idea the cost of pads and rotors replacement http://crm.bmw.ca/microsites/aftersa...P.aspx?lang=en

Unless it's a U.S. car then the brakes are covered.

Rotors usually never really need to be replaced unless there is very bad wear on it, and even if so most of the time you can just get the shop to machine it down a bit and it should work fine. Replacing your rotors prematurely (which happens ALL the time) is just a waste of money. Unless you switched your pads to some crazy abrasive compound rotors last a LONG time. Lastly, yes, even if your brakes are still strong it doesnt mean the pad is not almost done. Brakes are a crucial safety hardware and the indicator will come in very early to warn you to switch the pads/get it checked out. So even if u pasted the 2k service mark, you should still be good for another couple thousand more clicks. SO don't panic. Unless the braking compound is COMPLETELY gone, usually you won't hear squeeking (i forgot whether or not there is a build in noise indicator on bmw pads) or lose braking performance. Good Luck!!
