E90 335d Hybrid Turbos & Meth Kit U.S.A. Edition
I finally got back into the country late last night and picked up my vehicle this morning after having hybrid turbos installed, along with a BPC Stage III tune and an AEM Meth kit.
After months of waiting, the day had come at last. As soon as I massaged the skinny pedal I was in awe, words cannot describe the euphoria I was experiencing. This car is hands down one of the best cars I have ever had the pleasure of driving. Anyways, enough of that. Let's get down to the nitty gritty. Here are the turbos: LARGE TURBO BEFORE AND AFTER SMALL TURBO BEFORE AND AFTER Few more images The turbos were custom built by http://sandhperformance.com and the installation and custom tuning was performed by http://bimmerperformancecenter.com out of Raleigh, NC. Both turbos were bored out to the max and custom billet aluminum compressor wheels were machined out and installed into the housings. All the internals and seal were upgraded with Comp Turbo parts. The stock wastegates were removed and shipped off to TurboSmart to be tested to make sure that they could handle the amount of back pressure and boost that was about to be thrown at them. After the install and having some issues getting around the torque limiters in the transmission and EGR maps, BPC was able to make 365hp/594tq @ the wheels with the turbo upgrades. Better yet, with the addition of the AEM Meth Kit and using windshield wiper fluid for my boost juice, the car laid down it's best numbers yet... 392hp/647tq @ THE WHEELS!!! Here is a picture of the meth tank installed in the trunk along with the pump concealed next to the amplifier: It's one thing to go really fast, but it's another to slow down. In order to aid the car in the effort to do so we added a StopTech BBK w/ 6 piston calipers in the front a 4 piston calipers in the rear with cross drilled rotors. I plan to take the car to a drag strip here in the not too distant future to see what it can actually do on God's dyno. I plan to do runs with running meth and without to see what kind of difference it really makes and post the results. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Bimmer Performance Center for really coming through on this project. Feel free to ask me any questions. Last edited by NC335d; 08-31-2015 at 08:59 PM.. |

That looks really nice. And glad to see you're planning to take it to God's Dyno.
Some questions. 1. Your description talks about the dyno results at the wheels, but the dyno plot says "at engine". Curious as to which one is correct? 2. Do you know what the compressor map looks like for the large turbo with this modification? Or, do you have logs on what the MAF/EGT's/Intake Manifold Pressure/Exhaust Manifold Pressure/Intake Manifold Temps/AFR's are doing for that dyno result? 3. Also curious on the cost of upgrading the turbo's, if you don't mind sharing. Would be mostly interested in just the bigger turbo modification. And thanks for sharing the results.

Did you happen to do before dyno pulls on this same dyno?

Nice work. I'm interested in this turbo discussion. TDI, I know why we want a low pressure turbo upgrade. Interested in the comments on the high pressure side though. I know we do not much suffer from turbo lag and a lot of driveablility issues are in the transmission. However, wouldn't a faster spooling high pressure stage be more beneficial for a better off the line response and general low speed driveability?

TDI I feel like this is the one "bridge too far" from an expense perspective, i.e., a new LSD. I spoke to the guys at Mfactory. $2,000 just for the LSD without extraction and install. I know you do most of your own work, but what is the least one could pay to get an LSD. By the way, it is my understanding that our welded in diff is what makes swapping it out so expensive.
