New Bimmer owner and want to keep it for awhile....

Hey guys!

I recently purchased a 2011 BMW 328i Coupe with 63k on it.

I have the carfax and it looks like he has been keeping on schedule with the maintenance at a local dealership for "recommended maintenances"

Is there anything I can do to keep the car in tip-top shape? Any preventative measures to take?

The only thing I need to have done as of right now is to have the rear brakes/rotors replaced.

Any and all advice is welcome and I appreciate the responses.

Read the owner's manual. Review the thousands of threads on the topic of maintenance on E90 Post. You've ask a far too broad question to really answer it. Buy and learn how to use a scan tool.

Ok you are new so I'll be nice... I owned a 2007 E90 328 from 07 to 2013.

Do the following
Replace any gasket as soon as a leak shows. Valve cover gasket will probably fail at around 80k miles. Same goes for your water pump.
For maintenance do the following

Change your spark plugs. I believe it's 80k for the NA N52 motor but mind as well have peace of mind and do it now.

Change transmission fluid (and pan\filter if auto)

Change differential fluid

Change power steering fluid

Change brake fluid

Check the belt and pullies.. if you see any play or abnormal noise change that ASAP

Have suspension inspected and swap out anything that needs swapping out.

Change oil every 5k-7k miles

Obviously check air filter and replace if necessary.

Learn to properly wash and wax the car yourself.

And we wonder where the term Break My Wallet comes from

The 2011 N52 requires spark plugs at 60,000, which is stated in the owner's manual

I stated I owned a 07 not a 11. The 07 interval was a specified by CBS, which a lot of people were getting "come in at 80k miles" response. Yes the 11 manual does specifically state 60k.

Agreed, the '06 - '09 has a CBS interval of 100,000. 2010 and up BMW changed the interval to 60,000 and dropped the spark plug menu from the CBS. Not sure why BMW changed.

I wasn't intending to be not nice. I was trying to get the OP to be more self reliant.

Cheers.

This.

Read through the forum to get an idea of what maintenance you should do and what repairs the car might require in the future so you can budget for them.

I open the hood on my vehicles once a week just to look things over. While this is probably more than most people, I find it allows me to get a good idea of things that may need to be addressed in the future (low fluid levels, leaks, belt condition, etc) before they cause an issue.

+1 opening the hood every week. Not kidding... I think it helps keeping the cable from jamming due to corrosion.

I do open the hood at the gas station sometimes. A year or two ago I did that and an early 20's woman gassing up in front of me comments "Wow, that's the 1st time I've ever seen a BMW owner actually open the hood and look at the engine." I just laughed a little bit and said "Well yeah" LOL, if she only knew... I guess she was a gearhead.

And without airplane-level preemptive replacement of common parts. Modern BMWs do not need the "old school" level of maintenance.

Same here every Saturday I pop the hood and check the fluids, check for leaks, check air filter (shake off any dirt), etc.

So much heartache can be prevented by simply looking at things with a good flash light every once in a while.

Flashlight is old school.

Flashlight app on your iphone is today

All good comments, OP you can go crazy with preventative and it will be a bit pricey if you farm it out (vs DIY which many of us do here) or you can follow the manual, replace on schedule, and not lose sleep on 10+K synthetic/CBS based oil changes and drive the snot out of it.

Efthreeoh and others have hours worth of reading in past posts so grab good bourbon and go to town.

Nah, man, cell phone flashlights suck (their "grade school"). A real flashlight is a Surefire P2X Tactical.
