Downsides of Jailbreaking MEVD1726 DME?

Are there and downsides to jailbreaking (aka bench flashing) the MEVD1726 DME that we find in 2013 models? I recently learned that this is required to flash MHD.

Is this process reversible?
Is it smogable?
Is it detectable by the dealer?
Are there any negative side effects?
Will it remove my PPK2 factory tune?

Yes and no. Yes you can flash back to stock. No you cannot factory seal the DME once it has been opened. You can and should reseal it when you're finished though.

Is it smogable?
Yes

Is it detectable by the dealer?
Only if they are looking for it and even then it is hard to determine.

Are there any negative side effects?
If you do it incorrectly or do not seal it correctly when you're putting it back together, otherwise no.

This is a little unclear to me. I believe all you're doing is bypassing the encryption so you can flash through the OBD2 port. If my assumption is correct then no it will not. You will lose it however when you flash a different tune (ie install MHD)

According to MHD, if I flash back to stock with MHD it relocks the DME and then it needs to be bench flashed again in order to reinstall MHD. Is that true? Cuz that sucks if I want to flash back to stock for smog.

It sounds like you're looking for over-clarification. Yes it is true but it is also silly to question what MHD says about their own product. In your orginal questions I told you that you could smog with a bench flashed DME. You didn't ask if you could with MHD installed but that answer is also yes. You will not pass smog with a catless downpipe though.
