So I tryied the tightening the rod on my rear turbo but that did not seam to fix the problem. I want to try this but I don't really understand where these washers go. Is it correct that you take the c clip off then slide the arm off then put the washers there?

Absolutely not.

The goal is to tighten the rod. The job of the washers it to pull the WG actuator away from the housing.

That's a different fix for a different problem.

Okay, so the washer goes on the rod between the 10mm nut and where the rod screws into

the washer go between the WG actuator mounting bolts, thus pulling the rod "tighter"

Yeah I got that after I looked at more pictures, I don't see how this is different front undoing the 10 mm bolt and threading in the rod in more. I haven't looked at the front turbo yet but are you guys adjusting it this way because you can't get to the rod with tools.

yes, the rod is on the inside towards the block. total pain to get to, not sure you can do it with the subframe on even.

Just did this fix this morning. My god it's nice not to hear that rattle anymore. Not embarrassed to leave the parking lot anymore.

I just followed the instructions on page 2 and used the cutout washer method as noted by another member, worked perfectly. Instead of trying to get the damn washers to come off the magnetic pickup tool and stay on the bolt just tighten up the bolt when the washers are in place so you can remove the magnet then you can loosen the bolt again to allow you to get the clearance you need to space the other bolt. I did the top bolt from the top and bottom bolt from the bottom.

Took about 1.5 hours start to finish. Well worth it.

Hey glad it worked! Did you have both acceleration rattle and letting off rattle? or just one of the symptoms.

I only had rattle when letting off. It used to be for only the first few minutes after starting the car before the vacuum pressures stabilized but eventually it starting doing it all the time. That was the final straw that pushed me to sniff out this thread and make the fix.

So is it necessary to have the car on a lift or ramps to do the front turbo?

I attempted this today and for the life of my could not get the washers between the WGA and its mounting holes. I spent way to much time on the top, and wasn't even going to attempt the bottom without some confidence built up What are your guys' tricks for getting those washers in there? I was even trying with the opening cut out of the washers, I can't imagine how you'd be able to hold washers in there long enough to thread the bolt through. Let me know some tips so I can get this done guys!!

Reading back through the thread, maybe it was my magnetic pickup tool? Mine kept causing the washers to try and separate from each other, making it almost impossible to get them in position.

Add grease or some other substance to get them to stick together long enough for you to get them in place....or use glue.

So for the bottom ones are you routing the magnetic tool up through drivers side of the water pump (between the water pump and the block) to get them where you want them?

Ok guys, so I got this done. This time I used some gorrila glue to secure the washers together before attempting to position them, and that made things go a lot smoother. Sure enough, 2 washers and my front turbo is working like a champ. It's like a whole new car. I've had WG rattle since I bought the car so I really didn't know what it was like to have properly working turbos, and wow, I could not be happier

Did you remove the undertray and worked from under the car, or did you everything from above/top ?

You have to be underneath the car to get to the bottom bolt. You can get to the top one from above. I did it with the car up on ramps.
