Custom Cold Air Intake with K&N Apollo supplemental airbox

EDIT: Dynos of the intake available here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486828

EDIT: Installed including the cold air snorkel in the brake duct It's ideal, it gets the coldest air possible. More pictures posted below.

EDIT: Installed ! Posted some install pictures below.

Parts needed:

- stock airbox
- K&N Apollo cold air intake (includes cold air feed hose with velocity stack and adapter to the intake box). It costs $127 online.
- custom CNC machined 2.75" OD intake flange
- 2 x 2.75" 90 degrees silicone couplers
- 1 silicone joiner
- 4 hose clamps
- Custom rubber gasket for the intake flange
- K&N air filter sealing grease (to properly seal the gasket to the intake flange and airbox)
- 2.75" hole saw and power drill
- Injen power steering relocation bracket to make room for the K&N Apollo filter (I think it may work without it but I am not sure)

Thanks. The intake flange is custom made. I bought 20cm of aluminium alloy bar of 85mm diameter and went to shop with a milling machine. I paid $10 for labor (and $25 for the aluminium bar).

$10 for labor sounds like a bargain. I didn't have to look at your location to figure out that you're not in the U.S.
Good setup by the way, the setup looks clean but your engine bay is really dirty.

oh, exposed sides on the cone keep the restriction from slowing the intake down....Like on Secret Wepon Dragon intake...

It's so freezing outside (even in the underground parking lot where my car is resting) that I can't even put the stock intake ducts back, let alone removing the bumper to fit the air duct...

But after completely fitting it I will certainly go to the dyno

The tube going to the filter housing is not yet fitted because of the wheather, but I will try to fit it directly near the fog light in order for the air to be pushed into the tube (but not directly pushed, maybe the tube should sit at a certain angle.

might not need to worry about restriction as that is an extra line to the box. Awesome....

I haven't yet started the car but actually the K&N Apollo does make a nice throaty sound:

Be interesting to see if the stock airbox mutes the turbos while the filter in the engine bay gives that sweet induction sound. Mr 5's mod doesn't change the sound at all, but that filter is down in the bumper...

The Apollo is ideal for normally aspired engines up to 250BHP and turbo engines up to 350BHP.

You think it may be too small?

Doubt it, as the filter is simply supplementing the stock airbox.

As you can see in the pictures, this filter is in addition to the stock filter, it does not replace the stock intake/filter.

Because in my case (car with BMW Power Kit, and also in the 335is case) there is a supplemental water cooler sitting in the way so a Dinan-like intake with filter in the bumper cannot be done. But nevertheless the flex tube will be routed in the bumper so the airflow will be the same as Dinan.
