Yep, same here. Pretty shitty for a $50k+ car to have motor mounts that last less than 80k miles.

Of course I could be wrong, gawd knows wouldn't be the first time, but cannot remember ever seeing motor mounts listed in a document of things not CPO covered, and I've done more than my fair share of dealing on CPO issues with the dealers here around Denver.

Ok, sorry for the thread jack there is definitely a coat of oil I believe to be coming from the turbos that I have been complaining about since 45k.

What are common areas for an exhaust leak?? I had the airbox out last night and didn't see anything obvious.

Maybe just me but wondering what that passenger mount would act like if the vacuum line were temporarily disconnected. This would simulate a very large crack inside the mount. I'm wondering what to look for when the mount goes bad at ~80,000 miles.

Food for thought. A higher torque engine is going to wear out mounts quicker. Anyone with a big block muscle car has had to deal with this. Aftermarket designed torque straps to help take the load off of the OEM mount are offered. Not suggesting that addition here. I wonder if a Ford/Chevy/Dodge motor mount on a diesel is substantially for stout than on the gasoline burning equivalent. Sort of wondering if the M57 mount is more substantial than the N54/N55 gasser mounts.

Upon closer auditory inspection, my noise is definitely the motor mount. Frequency increases with increase in rpm. Looks good from the top (with a lot of spattered soot too). Will investigate on lift next week. Sucks because I'm going to HPDE next weekend.

Oil coming from the turbos and their associated plumbing looks different than was in the photo. I, we that have had these cars for a while, I've had mine for over 5 years original owner, have dealt with and seen both issues. I wouldn't worry about the soot so much as the oil coming from the turbos.

The dpf differential pressure sensor hoses that connect to the dpf, if they pop off or leak, will leak soot.

Egr cooler leak, they crack and leak soot.

Those are two common ones, loose sensors, flange leak.

If DPF hoses pop off, damage is far worse than soot mess. People have had electrical harness get burned up. GottaBKD (spelling?) was a victim.

Sorry for drifting the thread but I think it all depends on the dealer.I had my both motor mounts replaced on my 2009 X5 35D under CPO last year.My CPO brochure clearly stated motor mounts under the covered items.

What's covered under CPO changes constantly. It certainly seems that the CPO warranty given out in 2013 (for a 2011 car) doesn't cover the motor mounts. Oh well.

Well, it was the motor mounts. I paid $500 to have them replaced by the excellent Christian at CS Motorwerks here in Westlake Village, CA. No more nasty grinding sound, and overall the car feels smoother and quieter.

I had to call my dealer back and apologize for doubting their techs. Still annoyed at BMW for not covering these things under CPO, but that's not the dealer's fault.

Mine looks similar. My turbo oil supply lines are leaking causing the mess.

Had the line right under the engine cover replaced already at 49k. Does anyone know if the Oil Supply lines are covered under CPO??

I don't quite understand why people are complaining about motor mounts going bad? on a high torque car mounts should be expected to go bad and its normal wear and tear around 100k miles imo. My passenger mount just went bad had it checked on a lift Wednesday.

The oil lines in my car were replaced before I bought it 10K miles ago when the previous owner took it to BMW for a pre-purchase inspection. Covered under CPO warranty when replaced I believe but I don't think I have any documentation to that effect.

Just got off the phone with my dealer. Says motor mount replacement will be covered under CPO because the specific verbiage of "motor/engine mount" isn't in the not covered section. Cha ching!

I replaced my mounts last night. Went ahead and did both. No more clunking on left turns.

I think you must have a CPO warranty from a different year than mine. Mine explicitly calls out the motor mount as not covered.
