That sounds like run flat pressure, I would think 33f and 36r at most would be fine.

These are not 5P's, the ones you have ordered are a totally different tyre, in type, size, and construction, so hopefully my problem will not apply to you

You really don't want to mix tyres on a BMWS front and rear, different tread patterns can really, really screw the handling of the car up.

I agree... but i spent most my time in 1st and 2nd gear in traffic, not many twisting, fast roads in london- lol

Widest I went on the front was 235,so a tad wider than stock, rears I went up to 275.

On flipside to all the comments:

Firsly I totally agree with Houtcoupe about 38ish mark for non run flats. However in the case of the 5P's I am not so sure.

When I ran them I ran them 35 front 37 rear. In summer they felt better on 34f and 36r. Any higher than this and they felt rock hard!!!.

Now I doubt very much that running 39 would cause such cracking? I think it may be more of an issue with either manufacturer defect or more likely they were old stock which have been left lying around for a long time in non ideal conditions?

Anyway hope you get it sorted.

My tyres were made nine weeks before they were fitted.

With the faulty set, I specified that all four were to be the same production week, and less than three months old. Just need to talk nicely to a friendly warehouseman to go through the stock, before despatch.

The new (replacement) tyres will also be the same as above.

Remove tyres with concrete sidewalls and replace with spongy tyres then run them at even less pressure for extra sponge? I buy extra load tyres and run them at 40 ish. Seems not far off the proper feel.

Don't confuse sponge with bite.

I swapped my M3 19s for 18s to get more bite, it had the added bonus of being comfortable as well, but the main reason was for better grip when 'really' pressing on.

I agree and do the same.

However, the OP was using XL's too. But this does seem to be a bad batch (touch wood).

Thanks for you support, as I said previously, it appears that it will be a few weeks before I get the report back from Conti.

Will post the results, as soon as I have them.

I realise this will have reached very few 5P owners, but those who have may not have checked them, there have not been any "mine are OK", comments, sure there were at least a good dozen who have them

Yeah but in the photos they look very much like OLD OLD rubber. Wild, the pics you posted above I swear in court are of a 7-9 year old tire... All the Micro Cracks, etc, they look really aged.

Strange,you buy tyres (NOT tires) fit them to a wheel,drive on them and they wear and then look old,who'da thunk it!

Oh shit! Good on ya I forgot the "correct" spelling of tyre in the Queens English.

Not a Lawyer, but I've pulled all sorts of summer "Tyres" off my cars and none of them looked that old and grey even after a few summer months. I know Ole' Blighty can be hard on equipment, but damn.

However, if I was indeed a Barrister? Maybe a Solicitor, I would put forth that the posted photos are NOT of Tyres that are a mere few months old.

Checked & Calibrated every three months, as are my torque wrenches, etc, etc.

A requirement and standard practice in my profession.

Just to be clear, I stated that I would not accept tyres that were older than three months at the time of fitting, I did not say they were only a few months old.

The tyres have done 7600 miles, and were made in Week 3, 2011.

What you lot over the pond need to remember, is that over here we have things called bends, and lots of them, (my tires get a hard time, as the heavily feathered edges show). We don't all have arrow straight roads, with no need to turn the steering wheel for 6 hours

Anyway all I was trying to do was prevent someone having an accident, and all I am getting is flamed and comments implying I have crap equipment and over inflate my tyres.

Some of you know what I did for a living, and I feel that I am probably one of the better "qualified" on here to comment on tyres, car set-up and handling.

Feeling a little unloved here chaps
