BMW MTF-LT3 alternatives
Anyone used Redline in place of OEM trans oil? I've used Redline before with excellent results in other vehicles bit I just did a bunch of reading and now I'm more confused than when I started! I can't seem to find it any cheaper than $32 a quart which seems outrageous to me....

I put Ravenol in my transmission when I did the clutch.

Honestly unless the OE fluid is really expensive I would just go with that - surely that would be the best for the trans. I don't have any input on redline transmission fluid(although I know that they're definitely a good brand) but don't put Royal purple syncromax in your car!!
It looks to me like the redline stuff is roughly the same price as OE. I personally would go with the oe |

I did the redline simply because ECS sells a kit with it and the plug(s) you need as a bundle so it was convenient to order.
I would probably do the oem next time although I notice no difference in function between them.

Thanks guys I appreciate it.. Part of the reason for asking is i have 2 quarts of Redline GL 4 75W90 on the shelf and from the research I've done that's what i need. I ordered drain\fill plugs already. Just finished up output shaft and selector rod seals this evening, waiting on the flex disc to come in so i can install the driveshaft and cat back exhaust. Waiting on 3 more hoses to finish up water pump and thermostat work. AFE CAI will be here Friday. All this was done while replacing leaking oil pan gasket. New trans mounts done and new motor mounts. Then 3 stage intake and MILVS. Already did air scoops and silicone intake tube. Ready to be back on the road!

Was in the same boat as you. Either go buy BMW factory spec that is MTF-LT3 or go with people who were saying they used some kind of ATF. Redline actually recommends I think their D4 or D6 ATF fluid.
I ended up with some Febi MTF-LT3 specced 75W80, wanted to stay OEM/factory . |
