Shop for oil pan gasket replacement in DC/NoVA

This would be for 2006 330 XI.

I got a quote of $1800 or so by a dealer (while getting a recall done). I've inquired about the job from three independent shops in Arlington VA area. They gave me like quotes around $2000. (It seems like these shops have never done one as they got really defensive when I inquired if they have actually done one...)

Has anyone had any experience with any shops that have done this? I am not looking for super cheap quotes but anything less than $1800. I am fairly handy having done various jobs including eccentric shaft (not just the sensor) replacement, but this is too much of a PITA job. The leak is getting pretty steady that I am adding 1/2-1 quart of oil per month.

Thank you!

Dealer doing it for only $1800?!?!? On an XI?

What's the catch?

The cheapest I could find a few years ago at indy shops here in the Shenandoah Valley was $1500.

It's not that hard to do... just takes 12+ hours of steady wrench turning.

I'm planning it out now for mine (still only using 1 liter per 7k miles) since I want to also replace the front bearings and possibly the axle shafts & carrier. Basically a full refresh while I've got it all torn apart.

The owner is Keith and he's great to work with. Very personable, reasonable and honest. Good small shop.

I wish I could help, but I'm a long ways from you. Those quotes you're getting are crazy! I don't blame you for shopping around. I had mine done for $1200 and that included the oil level sensor gasket.

No doubt this is an expensive job. I trust Greg Miller at Loudoun County Exotics. Greg is a straight shooter with a great deal of industry experience.

Going by your information you have a 328i.... 328xi is seriously more involved since the front carrier is bolted to and right hand axle actually goes through the oil pan.
