Can independants install updated progman software/firmware?

Or is it a stealer only deal? - I'm trying the warranty route to have mine updated and have just been informed that it is chargeable at 2hrs tech time

Yes, if equipped with an autologic.

I was told it was £190+VAT to upgrade the software by my local stealer.

Have you spoken to Viv?

He's got some previous on this.

Otherwise, try burning an ISO file to a DVDR and stick it in your idrive. It crashed mine almost immediately and I then got a free software flash (obviously this is at your own risk )

Yep - done the bulletin thing - they just ignore it weirdly? Even after repeated emails repeating the bulletin number etc etc.

The ISO thing may well work as an alternative.

A kindly soul posted me a copy of the latest nav disc with speed cameras a couple of years ago. I slotted it in the car without checking it and my idrive totally conked out.

I did a 'reset' and managed to eject the disc. Stuck the proper one in and got my software updated under warranty. In my case this was a problem worth having, because I got the newer idrive graphics with additional colours and the ability to scroll through to the aux function.

@NFS - You have a 2006 330i yes?

So your software upgrade brought additional colours etc?

My 2006 330d is running 2006 software (as it hasn't had any other work done other than two services) - I wonder if I can be convinced to lash out the £190...................

What benefits are there from getting the software changed or is it a iDrive thing?

Yep ... my car is a 2006 56 plate.

Changes from the software update were:

1. More colours on the idrive map view
2. 'Aux In' is now included when scrolling through sound sources using the steering wheel controls.
3. Improvements in graphics quality, both in map view and PDC.

Definitely a big improvement. 1 and 3 benefit idrive cars only, but 2 would help everyone.

Dealers are taking the piss at £190 though.

2. 'Aux In' is now included when scrolling through sound sources using the steering wheel controls. Mine does that now.
3. Improvements in graphics quality, both in map view and PDC. Again, a picture would be handy

Dealers are taking the piss at £190 though. Agree! Hence my hesitation!

If there is a known issue they can't charge.

just go for the 'jamming nav screens' or similar, they should upgrade for free.

Did my 330i twice no probs.

AFAIK indys can't do it
