why does it need to have been running??

is there more or less oil in the engine after its been running?

I always have checked my oil with the car on level ground and after its been standing for a good while to allow it all to drain into the sump.

Surely you have had enough cars to know this Carl

PS: (in fact I have annoyed myself by answering yet another daft dxb question)

PPS: (get some of that racing oil - will make daddies car go to 60 a second quicker - better than a re-map)

PPPS: (talking of maps - if you find one of your area search for the road with your BMW dealer on it - he may have saturday morning 'check your oil' classes) lol

man yes i know lots about engines..... i dont mean engine runnin, i mean after she has been run upto warm then turned off?!

appparently thats when u are meant to check this cars?

i have only ever done it (religiously too) in the mornings when the car has sat for like 12 odd hours and when oil has drained right down into the sump to get a correct accurate reading

Guys

I can't check my oil unless I run my engine for about 5 mins. The electronic dipstick refuses to check the oil until I think the car has warmed up.

But how do you know when the car is warmed up? Seeing as BMW forgot to put a temp gauge on the dash its a bit of guessing when to try.

The strange thing is that the key stores the engine temp on its memory - as i'd asked to see the screen info when at the stealers service desk.

You can also see how much fuel you have in the tank too - maybe to prove what the car went into the stealers with........

I believe it says 5 minutes after running, and it gives the time/distance (IIRC 6 miles) for which it says it should be run to reach the correct temperature. From memory.

I never drive more than 3 miles in my car so I can't ever check my oil

Carlos, are you doing this on purpose now? Asking dumb questions just to attract attention.

Do you have ADHD?

You must be a mind reader Peter - I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing.

Carlos. Stop being an eejit. Take your owners manual and read it on the pan, or in the bath if you must. But read the thing. It is not difficult. Can you multi-task - too much for you ? Defecating and reading, or sitting in the bath and reading at the same time is not difficult.

Mummy needs to give you a good crack over the head with the spine of the BMW Owners Handbook.

These constant trivial questions just make you look [even more of] a complete balloon. Questions my 5 year old nieces would actually take time to think through before blurting out ...

Not Carlos. Big baby bird mouth opens up wide.

D.

Oh NFS, there's really no need to tease Carlos.

You know you should have mentioned that it needs checking every Sunday morning at 5am as well!
