Head swap gasket question

Hey guys I wanted to know what parts I would need to buy if I am replacing the head on my engine,

I will be reusing my old head because someone can fix it!!!! anyways my mechanics are very vague in their prices when they tell me they are buying a head gasket kit its 199 but I am not sure what they are buying

in short I am trying to save money everywhere I can so what gaskets do I need to do the head swap or not head swap but head take off and head put back on lol

these are the things the listed very vaguely

head gasket kit 199
oil change 80
coolant flush 30

the labor for oil is 30 I could do it myself but w/e

also I am buying a valvetronic servo motor because its doing that sound and the idle rpm is going up and down

also they are charging me 600 for the head swap which I think is a very good price

and I found a person here in south FL that fixes n55/n54 heads so for 100 he will take care of mine!

thanks!

199 sounds right. There is a generic no-name kit out on EBAY and other places. A whole kit for 100-200 depending on where you buy it. I got one off Alibaba for $100 2 years ago but looks like they are stateside now for a slight mark-up. Not sure if this is what the shop means when they say "kit" though...

Comes with head gasket, intake manifold gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets, valve stem seals, valve cover gasket, and some other random gaskets.

Something like this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BGA-Cyl...4AAOSw8KxeTGju

You'll also need injectors seals and decouplers...

yeah they just sent me a message I asked them to elaborate

they said

head gasket and all the gaskets needed that would be at high risk to cause a leak if not replaced such as thermostat, valve cover etc.

yeah this list is much more complete. I am sure that shop will end up increasing that quote. Lot's more need to be replaced than just the head gasket and valve cover gasket. All those little things add up even when shopping around. To be fair though not everything on your list is really necessary... like the rectarings... or the injector well gaskets... or the timing chain tensioner washer. Lot's of stuff can be re-used just fine.

Valve stem seals is a separate job from head gasket replacement so they likely won't be doing those as par tof a "head swap." No clue what he means by he found a shop that can fix a cylinder head for $100. What exactly does that entail? What exactly is wrong with the head to begin with? That's about the price just to hot tank the head and clean it lol. Another 500+ to do a valve job with new seals.

I figured a few items were going overboard but I don't have much confidence in the last person that put this motor together(its a rebuild), so figured it was worth the return shipping for whatever I don't end up using.

That's why I asked lol. My local machine shop is going to charge $150-200 just to deck the head and I thought that was a good deal.

Wow great list thank you for that and the shop is not really a shop it is two certified bmw techs that work mobile this job will be done in my garage it is roomy so its not a problem but here is their instagram https://www.instagram.com/fdperformanceshop/

Now I do have to say sometimes their prices are a bit odd I did go to someone else to have my pressure plate changed because the price was more reasonable.

anyways they are still good just waiting for the parts to arrive so we can start the head swap job

tell them Martin or Blue 335i recommend you to them

Appreciate it! Let us know how it goes once job is done. I’m waiting on my parts as well to start pulling the head off.
