Shark Fin
I am currently driving an E46 330i Sport Auto, and plan to change in the next few weeks to an E90 330d M Sport, second hand I might add., probably on a56 plate. I am just about getting my head round all the options and specs, but have not yet mananged to figure out what dictates whether the car is fitted with a shark fin or not. I know the vast majority of them do have one, I orginally thought it might suggest the car has Sat Nav but there seem to be plenty cars without the Nav but with the fin. Anyone any ideas and is it much of a job to retro fit one ?
Thanks |

I think you also get it if you specify nav without bluetooth, because that comes with the option to get BMW assist or BMW online - effectively this means your car has an in-built cellphone, which uses the sharks fin aerial. |

Was it fitted when the car was built and if so when was that ? I really like the Le Mans Blue and will be trying to track one down, as soon as DVLA send my V5 back that is.

This is Montego blue but it looks darker (more saturated) in certain conditions. The Zymol Ti wax also helps.

Maybe the sharkfin is now a standard fit regardless of bluetooth/sat nav.
It would make sense commercially for BMW, as I suspect most people would either have bluetooth or Satnav or both. |

It actually helps the car corner better. Water Ski-ers use similar devices on the bottom of their skis.

Strictly speaking a black fin would enhance the car's performance more then other colours.
As black absorbs the sun's rays as opposed to white or other colours which will reflect the sun's rays, thus causing turbulence,it would pay to repaint the fin black regardless of the colour of your car. As my new 335D is coming in Sapphire Black,I of course will benefit from this added performance, whilst others will have the tedious task of some cosmetic changes. Oh and by the way, a tip from another forum, I think it was a Corsa or Nova one - If you lay your rear seats down, you will increase your 0-60 times by a tenth of a second! |

My old car had this feature - you could be in an area where signal was maybe 1 segment on the lcd - as soon as you snapped the phone into the car kit and used the external antenna the signal went to full. If u have the holder - you will always get a better signal by using it although I think your dad's car may be special and probably provides a Carlsberg Signal (the best signal in the world) |
