Time to reassemble the doors.

The passenger door grab and the driver's door pull in the armrest were originally plastic-welded into place. These welds were drilled out using a countersink bit.

To reassemble I use "star plugs" (available from hardware stores) and wood screws to reattach the door pulls.

The door pulls have been repainted in Plastikote matt + Satin clear for extra scratch resistance.

Speakers weren't securing as tightly as I liked so I applied some closed-cell foam tape over the old gaskets..



Replaced damaged and missing clips.






Ready to go back on ...

Man, I love this interior restore. Kudos for how you put the doors back together. One of my biggest concerns for tearing apart the handles, etc.

Can't support for the caliper covers. I'd recommend a G2 paint kit. You have the skill to make it look clean and OEM, just as you did with the seats.

Doors finally done. They are probably the most fiddly part of this project due to the amount of disassembly and details to deal with.

lol I'm definitely pleased with the result and have no regrets.
It really brightens up the interior and kinda feels like a new car.

It's now time to begin on the rear seats, starting with the backrests.

STOP! Before you start dyeing, take the top headrest holders out. Trust me, it's much easier without them, and will give you a cleaner finished product.

There are snaps located about halfway down the shaft on the inside. Some of them have one on each side, some have only one. Insist a very small flathead down the center, with the head of the flathead against the wall of the shaft, parallel with the seat back. You'll feel the head dip into the hole. Push the head in as far at it will go with medium pressure, then push the handle of the screwdriver towards the side of the shaft which has the hole. Apply constant pressure and pull the shaft out. It may take a couple times to get the hang of it.

Edit: I would also remove the plastic tray. I removed the entire skin from the seat. Allowed me to reach all the creases without coloring the fabric.

OP this is a beautiful project. I commend the work and ammount of effort going into the project... However, the caliper cover got to go.

Friends dont let friends do dumb sh*t.
Return the covers. Use the money towards any real mod of your choice and just paint the calipers any color you want.
To sweeten the deal you can even put an M sticker or BMW sticker on the painted calipers if that's your cup of tea...but no caliper covers on this car plz.

This time I decided to try prep-cleaning with sanding scourer which turns out to be a little gentler and easier to use on curved surfaces than sandpaper.
When sanding, less retains the original texture but more gives better adhesion and a more natural feel.

Also have a new 500mL bottle of dye and confirmed the color is identical to the first bottle.



After prepping I thought it was a good time to steam clean the carpet and velour on the back/sides.



First taking care of the edges. Left the headrest inserts in place as they proved to difficult to remove. Did not use any tape this time, just patience and a steady hand.
The little match stick is holding the clip inwards to allow better clearance.



After 6 dye coats I applied 5 coats of 50% diluted matt clear in which I added a little color to assist in creating a more even coverage.
All done with a fine artists brush.



First seat back complete. Will let cure for a few weeks before installing. It takes a month to fully cure and be suitable for sitting on.

Now on to the centre armrest.



I've heard of some people using a spray gun for this kind of project but i can't see how that could be done with any accuracy.
