Hi Everyone.
Hope you guys can help me with this!

I have a big issue with my current setup on my E90. 328i Sedan Reg Pack non sport pack ( came with stock 16s)

Problem: Steering wheel is vibrating at 40mph and up. (Left to Right) and noticed more vibration.

I just purchased New TSW Nubringing Wheels Matte black (18x8 all four wheels) & NEW Michelin Pilot Sports 2 (Run Flats) the fronts being 225/40/18 & the rears being 245/40/18 from Discount Tires all at the same time almost 2 months ago.

I been getting constant wheel shaking and had them REBALANCED & FORCE BALANCED! 4 different location told me the tires and wheels are fine.

Tires are even and none are cupped or damaged.

Had Hubcentric rings on them but still had same issue, not currently dont have them on.

Can i please get advice on how to stop the shaking of the wheel, the faster i go the harder the wheel shakes left to right! Dangerous !

Do i have the wrong setup ? or need to go to squared setup?

BTW: Discount tire is currently trying to figure out what the problem is. The manager just ordered me 2 more 245/40/18's to put in the fronts replacing the 225s.

225/40r18s should match up to 255/35r18s in the back, not 245/40r18 (those are a bit too tall). Putting 245/40r18s may rub on the front.

Those wheels require hub rings, make sure they were installed properly, they will be a snug fit.

I've been told resetting the tpms system recalibrates your brake and speed sensors for new turning diameters. You may be experiencing some abs brake pulsations if your abs systems is freaking out because your tires are running at different speeds (since they are not the same height).

i had hub rings on them and they still vibrated and steering wheel still shook.

Discount tires was going to put the 255s but they said that was not going to support the weight of my car.

Do you think 245/40/18s ALL AROUND is going to be a stable setup?

I have a 335i, slightly heavier than yours, fronts are 225/40R18, rears are 255/35r18s. This is the standard setup for any sport package e90 with 18" wheel option.

When using their fitment computer, tell them to set the second size to front/rear and not both and make sure they have your vehicle info entered correctly. It may depend on the brand of the tire, but the rear is actually a higher load carrying capacity than the front size. Also make sure they enter that you are running aftermarket wheels. They have a strict fitment specification, but that setup is perfectly fine.

Certainly much better than giving you different height tires on a vehicle that isn't designed for them.

No problem, I actually have the exact same setup on my car (TSW Nurburgring in polished with 225/40r18 front, 255/35r18 rear), and kinda used to work for DTC here in Texas...

If it didn't happen until after the tires/wheels were put on, there is a good chance its related, but not definitely. And I know the manager will do whatever it takes to make sure its taken care of for you. Good Luck.

Alignment issues won't cause vibrations. Alignment will cause a pull, unusual handling, and uneven tire wear. Worn or broken bushings will cause alignment issues, as well as a clunking sound and bumpy feeling but typically only at low speeds.

Most high speed vibration issues are tire and wheel issues (out of round tires, bent wheels, improper balance, misaligned from the hub, cheap "universal" spacers) but may also include worn or broken tie rods, worn or damaged bearings, and ABS brake pulsations. I'm thinking the brake pulsations since the tires are rolling at different speeds if this only happened after getting the new tires installed.

There is no real definite solution unfortunately, these systems are so complex that the best thing to do is try something and if it works, it works.

The people at your shop are idiots...why would anyone ever think that a staggered 225/40/18 and 245/40/18 setup would be a good idea.

First: you absolutely need hub rings; no matter what.
Second: 245/40/18 up front should be fine. I run 245/40/18 all around (18x85 ET35) with zero issues.
Third: you said you had the wheels road force balanced but how many pounds of road force did each wheel/tire assembly come back as? If it's 10 lbs or more you WILL have vibration. Those machines won't flag a tire as "bad" unless it has 19+ lbs of road force.
Fourth: post a pic of the rear wheels/tires. I'd imagine that the PS2 in 245 would balloon quite a bit on an 8" rim. If that ends up being an issue, just run 235/40/18 all around and be done with it.

18x8 and you are running staggered? just do 225/40/18 all around and be done with it. no reason to go to 245

Wdeerfield, Yes lol 18x8 their running staggered on the tires im not sure why?
They said other tires werent able to support the weight of my vehicle so they ended up getting me 245/40/18 in the rears.

the 8" rims are not wide enough you need 9" for 255

update: Alignement, suspension, rotors everything on car was checked.
Wheels & Tires seem to be fine no signs of cupping or damage. Just no hubcentric rings

Looks like when they first installed in a month ago they had the wrong size hubcentric, and didnt even install driver front ring correctly causing to warp.

keeping the 225/40/18 fronts and rears 245/40/18 till friday when new hubcentric rings come in. size is 77x72.6.

If problem is not resolved possibly getting a full refund and going back to stock original oem 16s.

Get the full refund and re-do...we can help you. 1. Buy wheels and tires from Tirerack; or 2. Apex rims and tires from Tirerack. Find a reputable shop and you will not have any issues. 16" are small for these cars. Gary from Tirerack can recommend a shop and wheel package. This is not complicated to do.

Many years ago, I spent a year and a half chasing a vibration in a Merc 400E. I could feel it in the steering wheel and the body of the car. We tried multiple tire balances, new tires, wheels/tires from another car, stock alignment, drive shafts from different cars, new front struts, new rotors and more. Cost lots of $$$. Two Mercedes dealers and a Mercedes specialist worked on the car. Nothing worked, until....

They tried a non-standard alignment. It worked! But by that time, I hated the car and sold it.

Thanks NOK for the advice probably will be doing a refund Friday because I'm tires of this BS. Even after the rings they still shake and vibrate. I'm not sure if the rings were wrong size or what once again. I'm tired of working with these idiots.

And I'm going to be putting back 16s on when I got them temporary till I find a good setup. If you guys can answer my other thread on wheel fitment for oem style 45 for my car thanks!

have you returned the tsw back? was ur issue cause of the hub rings?
