****HELP PLEASE****STRIPPED ALUM oil cooler bottom bolt
ok so I really need some help here I have a 07 335i coupe(e92) sport and I was replacing the oil filter housing gasket and the oil cooler gasket and 1 of the bolts is stripped(NOT BROKEN) and of course its the one in the worst location for a stripped bolt https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...&iact=c&ictx=1 its the bottom left side and the head is facin away from us to the left in the picture https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...&iact=c&ictx=1 this is a picture of the bolt just not on my car IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS OTHER THEN THE EXTRACTOR SOCKETS AND THE GATOR GRIP THAT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

yes I used the proper socket but I think the prior owner had some work done and may have stripped it then idrk how it happened but ill try and post a pic of the actual bolt but its at my friends house and im home right now its just the worst spot to get anything on there to remove it 1 bolt is holdin me up and it startin to piss me off........I will post pic soon as I get by there

Did you take off the mickey mouse coolant hose near it? Usually you cant get a socket on that bolt because of it. Post up a pic of the current situation and we'll go from there.
If you haven't taken that coolant hose off, order a new one and take that off. They often shatter upon removal. Order a new bolt for the damaged bolt too. Once that coolant pipe is out of the way, you have much more access to salvage. |

ohh yea that friggen ''Mickey Mouse" coolant hose is the reason im in this shit show in the first place pulled it off to replace the gasket and broke the plastic nipple so I bought the adapter so I didn't have to replace the whole hose but that's besides the point, the mickey mouse house is off, the fan is out, all air box stuff removed but I still cant get the bolt out so im goin to try to heat it alil today and try to get her outta there before I drill or grind her out the way ill throw some pics up as soon as I get to my car its at a friends house and I have no car to get there till he picks me up so....... thanks in advance guys PICS COMIN SOON

I would try needle nose vice grips as a last resort. But you would need to reorder the bolt(s)
BMW part# 11427540759, part# 11427540763 and part# 11427540758. |

Reordered all new oil cooler and oil filter housing bolts. Never again will I take em out and put em back without replacing them. Fm. What a shot show its been one thing after another--- starter--battery--CAS reflash (cuz of locked steerin column and ignition)-- water pump--thermostat--valve cover--valve cover gasket--oil filter housing gasket--oil cooler gasket--plugs--coil packs--UPGRADED pcv valve to RB PCV --UPGRADED brakes to slotted and cross drilled (geomet rotors and ceramic pads) its been a long road but when shes finally done itll be worth it!!! worst part was , all I wanted to do was put a stereo system in it and tried to save some money....yea that never works for me something always ALWAYS comes up

KrookedKing, not sure if this was the first time you did the Gasket, but I had to do it again after 10 Months.
Reason, did not have torque speacs and the gasket design is just Poor in my opinion. so....the second time, I added Permatex Ultr Cooper on the gasket......LOL 3 Years No Leaks. |

That bolt is a E10 socket. You MUST absolutely use a E10 socket to get it off. Some people used an 8mm wrench which works but it does not fully grab like a E10 can and *will* strip the head of the bolt. I speak from experience.
When you take this bolt off, you must do it with two hands. You must keep the socket perfectly aligned against this bolt. Any angle will also strip the bolt. |

I have e10 8mm and universal and all don't do shit cuz its been stripped already so im bout to just grind her off and move on I haven't been able to get back to my car in a few days so its eatin at me while I sit here thanks for the input ive def heard about usin permatex gasket sealant I think this time im gonna skip it cuz I just don't have it but if I have further issues I will 100% be usin permatex

Your other option is to JBWELD another nut onto it (like a 14mm nut) and then you can get a 14mm socket to get it off. The reason why I say 14mm nut is because there is more surface area to adhere to the E10 and possibly the entire E10 bolt head can fit into the hole of the 14mm nut. Does this make sense?
edit: in my days JB weld was the shit. Now it looks like something called 'Loctite Metal' epoxy is supposedly superior to that in every way. So use Loctite Metal instead. |

From the picture the back side of the bolt is all accessible looking.
You can try to drill it IN with a regular drill bit, it may turn it clockwise and take it out. Or drill just a bit there with a small size bit, put a sheet metal screw that is just a bit bigger than the hole you drilled, screw it in the drilled hole, it may crack it loose. (Don't put a thread cutter there and force it, it will break inside the hole and not come out, hence I am thinkin a sheet metal screw that will bite in and not easy to break). Or cut a slot right there with a dremel, use a good flat screw driver to drive it in (out from other side). Throwing out some ideas, use your own judgement if they are good ideas or not. |

Thanks guys !!! I can't hammer anything on to it cuz theres not snuff space to swing the hammer back to get enuff umphhh behind it SO..... what I did was went and bought a new dremel and an extension https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dremel-22...&wl13=&veh=sem and this gave me the perfect angle to cut the bolt head straight across and then grind it right down to the threads and was able to pull the oil filter housing right off with no further issues THANKS AGAIN GUYS u really helped with some ideas https://scontent.fbed1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...50&oe=5961FA83
